I always thought of horse back riding as a woman's sport, Lords and ladies would go fox hunting, and go for rides, but women in my mind excelled, sonce we're often smaller, we just seem to be able to ride horses a lot better...and horses to me always seemed like Unicorns, responding well to a woman's touch

^ Well, my dad's 10 centimetres smaller than my mum, so yeah..
I'd say riding is for both sexes, at least nowadays.. but in Middle Ages I picture women riding and poor men walking along them. Geez, I'm so nice towards them lol

^I love horses! Always have! If horseback riding lessons weren't so expensive, I'd have them by now.

*crawls our of hole* Haven't been here in a while lovelies.. sorry for that!
Hmm.. I'm actually quite terrified of horses. Not sure why, as I've never had any bad experiences with them. It's just.. they make me feel slightly on edge.
Actually, it seems I'm thinking quite the opposite from all of you. Personally, I've always imagined horse back riding as something girls would do. I mean, you always see guy jockeys, but I just imagine girls riding horses more often I guess.
And in the Middle Ages I think it was the complete opposite. Women might have ridden the horses if they were poor and if they were traveling, but I've always been under the impression that men were the real horse riders during that time.

Probably. I don't watch a lot of horse events so I couldn't really that I have personally seen it as a male or female dominated sport.

Actually i think that it's a girls sport. but that's just me, more girls dominate the horse world than guys do.

I love horse riding I went was I was smaller but then we couldn't afford it for a while...it seems to me that girls tend to love horse riding for the horses, and the guys like it for the competition. In my experience, anyway, although I do know a guy who's madly in love with anything that has four hooves and a tail ^^

I love horses as well, but actually I never had any real riding experience as my Mom is much too afraid of horses and so wouldn't let me go riding in the past, as she considered it as too dangerous.
Well, and now I don't have time to take riding lessons anymore.
But I love to watch horse events in the TV (like the World Equestian Games last year)...

I would watch lots of horse events! All I could! But I can't seem to find the chenel... *sigh*
I love horses! Allways have! And I agree with Wingfoot... most girls I know love horses, and guys usually are into it for competition.
Saddly, some poeple who want to anoy me say bad things about horses... like *I know a hoarse thats going to slaughter* or *I hope all horses die* oh, I don't like people who do that! I respect people's desitions if they don't like horses, but if they make fun of horses... *growls*

^Me neither. The expression, "I'm so hungry I could eat a horse" always bugged me as a child. LOL.

^i say that all the time, but i never would actually eat a horse, and i hated glue, cause little enemies of mine when i was little would tell me that there were horse hooves in the glue, so if i could, i didn't use it
this topic seems to be stretched a bit(like butter over too much bread), so how about we find a new topic?

^They did used to put horse hooves in glue. I don't know if they do it anymore. The animal rights activists would probably have sued them for it if they did.
As for another topic, what's off topic about discussing whether horse back riding is a female or male dominated sport?

All my life I've lived on a ranch, meaning I know a lot of cowboys, which is what come to my mind when someone says the phrase, "riding horses" So I would consider it a man's sport more, just because that's what I'm more familiar with.
