Since I agree with you, Elenthari, that means that we're sane, or the both of us are crazy .

I find that quite rude, Elenthari . Why am I the only one who's "crazy" ?

My feelings after finishing rotk? A little mixed, because, I decided the story was perfect when I stopped after the scouring of the shire. I thought there couldn't be a whole lot more to the story now, so I didn't keep going. I thought it was a good ending.
Then one day I read the "Well, I'm back" and oh my word I was so upset and sad! I even decided (I really did ) that lotr was a nightmare if it ended that way, and I didn't like it.
Eventually I realized that I could still watch the movies and play around with the story and explore the characters and places, so it wasn't like everything was gone forever. I decided to start the book over (much to my mom's annoyance )
But I never read that ending part anymore because I want lotr to cheer me up, not make me that sad.

I sort of know how you feel, ~Miriel~. "Well, I'm back," made me sad as well, because I knew those were the last words Tolkien had ever written in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. To me, it was a good ending, though. It left the rest of the character's lives open for discussion. Personally, I liked it. I'm not saying, however, that your opinion is wrong in any way, ~Miriel~ .

Well, actually I've come to except the ending and believe it is a good one-it's just that it makes me so sad!

I think we all have. We know it's over, and we acknowledge and accept that.

Well I haven't read the books, I am reading the first one at the moment but when I finished the film I was really sad that it had ended! I felt empty and the whole day I was just thinking about it. I love the ending but I still get sad when I watch it even though I have seen it loads of times!

I know how you feel. It was the same way for me, regardless of whatever I'm finishing, be it Lord of the Rings, or something else. You feel like you've finished something, that you've accomplished something, but it took up so much of your time, and you were so invested in it, you don't know what do to with yourself. I remember the first time I saw The Return of the King in theatres; I got so nervous the first time the screen went black, because I thought it was over. When it did actually finish, I remember looking back at the screen as I walked out to see all the drawings .
