I think he was very strong. Aren't mortal men the ones who are the weakest when it comes to being overcome by the ring? Boromir was a great man and he regretted taking the ring from Frodo after he tried didn't he? I might be wrong here... Boromir was set on following out the will of his father and protecting his country, which was what he loved most. He had a strong heart, and it took more than one arrow to make him fall. He protected the rest of the fellowship during his final battle, and he died bravely. How could he be weak?

And we come to end of days
In the dark I hear a call
Calling me there
I will go there
And Back again

*groan* I just posted something about this in a different thread. I should have put it here!

Well, to cut a long post short, I think he's strong.

I don't think he was very weak, but weak enough that he couldn't resist the Ring. But I did find him proud.

I think the same...
He was strached betwen Denethor and Gandalf and the fellowship...
On the cauncil of Elrond he showed what is he send to do...(well you could know it from his speach)
He was a great men... but I think thet Faramir was stronger....

I voted for, "He was weak. No question. But he was there at his father's bidding. Give the guy some credit!". He was definitely weak, but he had been sent to join the Fellowship at the bidding of his father, and he respected, loved and cared for his father very deeply, so in my opinion, Boromir was weak because of the influence his father had on him. He was strong as well, for example in his final battle, but he was corrupted by the ring when no one else was - Aragorn came close but didn't - so that doesn't really have too much in his favour.

I choosed: I don't think he was weak. I think he was strong. but at one side, he was weak. but at the other side, he was so strong. I think Boromir didn't first saw the danger of the ring. he was sorry when he died and spoke to Aragorn. and after all, he did try to save the hobbits! thats "strong" not weak.
although he tried to get the ring, its pity that he died.

(sorry for this miserable english. i hope you still can understand it)

I voted for the second option. I think Boromir had a lot of strength, but as many others have already said, the ring corrupted him and that was one of his weaker points. Aside from the ring, I think Boromir was a strong man in general [everyone in Ithilien looked up to him] and in battle.

Just my thoughts. :)

I think Boromir was weak, but conisidering his state of mind. His city was failing, all he wanted to do was make his father proud. Credit should be given to him. His mind was corrupt by the ring, his mind wasn't the first to be corrupt either.

I think that Boromir displays the best and worst traits in us all - selfish, greedy, corrupt, but honest, and loyal as well.

I mean com'on! Give the guy some credit! Besides, he was just trying to do his best, but died trying. (On a slightly different subject) It's not like Smeagol was totally innocent either - he killed Deagol and became corrupt the second he saw "the precious"

Men may be very easily corrupted, but Aragorn wasn't easily tempted by the ring, and even Faramir, raised by men, managed to control his greed. I choose the third option, so I know I'm outnumbered, but I believe that Boromir was one of the weakest, most selfish, greediest, most deceitful, and most belligerent characters Tolkien ever created. I have more pity for Fëanor than Boromir, which shows how much I despise the character, despite his change of heart at the end.

We all have our faults and weaknesses and for anyone to bare them and overcome them, must have some strength.
