EA, how do you get the tiny little glowy border around the banner, like the one you have now? It's really pretty

@The Nightingale: Well positioning text tall really depends on the pic...like take a look at Darky's avvies....and as Earwen said, try more effects! I like to use gradients and colors...like got Layer>Colors>Curves...you can expiriment with those.
Okay... I think.
I'm hoping for a "bored" day soon so I can play around with it more.

Rather to my embarrassment, I can't remember what I did exactly I used the blur tool, and the coffee stain feature thing, I think? I actually don't think I used a texture.
EDIT: Aha, I did that, and used the tool that looks like a stamp (dunno what it called, heh) with the Stripes Fine pattern set to between 10 and 15 opacity.

^Thanks, I'll have to try that!
I'm excited- I finally figured out how to download fonts and get them into GIMP, and I downloaded a bunch of brushes too! I think I'm going to test them out tonight!

I downloaded fonts for Microsoft word about a year ago... so I have all of those on GIMP.
This is something I made today, for a contest on here...

I'm working on a banner right now, I'll put it up once I'm done... hopefully it'll be ok.
Here's what I did:
1. Pasted picture on left.
2. Scaled picture, and pasted it on right.
3. Darkened shadows Burn>Shadows at 41.0
4. Lightened highlights Dodge>Highlights at 15.0
5. Lightened highlights Dodge>Highlights at 31.0
6. Made a rectangle where the two pictures met.
7. Convolve>Blur at 100
8. Smudged at 53.7 twice.
9. Got rid of the box, and smudged around where the box had been, bleeding the smudgedness out(go in a horizontal fashion, vertical makes it look funny).
10. Used the blur over the smudged part twice.
11. Went over the edges with the airbrush at 100, rate at 80 and the pressure at 10, using circle 03.
12. Added text, used Kuntsler Script.
13. Made avatar.
EDIT: I just looked at the banner now, and it isn't too shabby... well, for a first try I mean.
