I only just heard about this a few days ago, but was only brave enough to actually read about it for myself tonight.

In the 70's John Boorman was to write and direct Lord of the Rings.
The link I'm posting has some notes regarding it. Be warned...and be afraid, be very afraid.

After reading this article I think we should all be very happy we ended up with PJ. To think, we could have had Boorman's version of the film. Certainly makes you thankful and look at PJ's film in a completely different light than before!

Most definetly.
Not just that, but also the Bakshi version too. That at least stayed close to the source material.

*shudders* Wow, I'm incredibly grateful to PJ right now! Maybe those mushrooms the Hobbits ate had very long lasting effects.

Legolas - who is “clad in feathers and leaves.” - tries to catch her attention by doing a “bird-like dance.” Well, that didn't change much in PJ's version. *hides from the Legolas fans* lol

There are so many things wrong with that script I don't even know where to start.
And to think I love Excalibur O__o

It is disturbing, and I'm very glad that John Boorman went off to make Excalibur instead. Which is a very excellent movie.

Kinda makes the Bakshi version not seem so bad now =P
