What part of the book made you literally laugh aloud? I thought the bath story was pretty funny, and the mushroom one. But I think the one that still without fail makes me laugh, is when Frodo is on the table at The Prancing Pony and he jumps into a plate of mugs! :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: I wish they had included Frodo's sense of fun in the movies. Instead he was serious and sullen from the very beginning. It just goes to show what you'll miss if you don't read the books. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Just from FOTR, or from all 3? Well, the one that comes to mind from FOTR is the part where the Hobbits are staying at Tom Bombadil's house and they are trying to sleep, and it goes into much detail about Frodo, Merry, and Pippin before saying "Sam was quite content, if logs are contented." Or something like that.

Oh yes! I love the part where Merry, Pippin, and Sam reveal to Frodo that Sam was just fake sleeping, and Frodo was like, "I am never going to trust that you are sleeping ever again, Sam."

I love the part when Gandalf finds Sam outside the window... it does make me laugh, at least some of the time.

That part that made me crack up was actually when Bilbo used the ring to disappear at the party. I think the concept of it was just funny, and I started reading it right after I read the Hobbit.

Truly, my family rolls their eyes when I am reading lotr, because I will start crying and then laughing, and then I insist on reading them that bit. Then they will look at me and say, "So?" and I'll wail, "You don't understand!" "You're right, I don't."

i love the scene in the house at crickhollow where frodo, sam and pippin are all having baths, and merry is in the kitchen cooking mushrooms. the twee domesticness of it always makes me laugh. it's so unexpected in an epic, which i think is what makes it so amusing.

Don't really have anything to add to this, however I wanted to say that Tolkien has a brilliant sense of humour. Some of the best lines in the book are worthy of a hearty laugh. :)

One of the parts that has always made me laugh was after the Fellowship first meets Galadriel and Celeborn, and then they discuss how they felt when Galadriel was testing their hearts. To quote:

Quote:
'What did you blush for, Sam?' said Pippin. 'You soon broke down. Anyone would have thought you had a guilty conscience. I hope it was nothing worse than a wicked plot to steal one of my blankets.'

I'm not sure why, but that's always amused me. It's the really subtle things like that, things that you might not catch at first reading, that I really like; the dry wit really appeals to me.

AH! I laughed so hard when Gandalf found Sam outside of the window listening, and tells him that he's going to go with Frodo. Then Sam's all happy that he's going to see the elfs, and then bursts into tears. I may be wrong, but that was my impression.
