Yeah, that's the reason I mentioned it. You see, my mum keeps saying she's going to take me to have one done, but I'm resisting most ferociously. *shrugs* I'll find a way out of it somehow...
Hmm... oh! I do have something we can talk about. Does anyone here knit, crochet, cross stitch, etc? My sister has taken up crocheting shawls and scarves, and she wants me to do the same. Unfortunately, I lack her patience and creativity.  However, I received a cross stitch book full of Harry Potter patterns for my birthday, so I may take up that instead.

Oh, well I feel much better now thanks girls.  I was thinking I was the only one who hadn't had it done when I should have, so I feel much better now. I was pretty worried actually.... ... that's the hypochondriac part of me I'm afraid. I worry a lot about health and illnesses... of course there must be thousands of girls who haven't had it done, so why I was starting to feel sick thinking about it I don't know. 
Ooh, me! I cross stitch! I have been doing so for quite a few years now. I've just finshed a little Christmas bear and now I'm onto a snowman. I like to cross stitch Christmas things this time of year. I'll try and post some pictures of what I'm working on and what I just finished. 
Oooh, does the HP book have a large picture of Harry on it, and is it in French? I got a HP book about 8 years ago, and I did quite a few from it, pumpkin pasty, cauldron, Hogwarts shields, flying key etc. I don't have a lot of patience either, yet I have took up many crafts which has surprised people really.
I find it relaxing, and it gives my hands something to do when I'm watching telly.

Oh goodness yes, 'tis nothing to get worried about it. It's just a precaution really, and you can get it done when you're ready. That'll be my logic behind it at least.
Yes, yes, that's the one! The price was ridiculous, but it's the only one I could find. Is it worth it? What other sort of patterns do they have?
The thing is, I don't watch much telly, so I don't have time to just be idle and cross stitch. Seems I'm always on the run... I think it's time I took up some sort of hobby though.

@ Larael - Yes, I suppose your right. There must be very few women our age who have those problems anyway I suspect. As you said it's just a precaution.
Yes, I seem to remember our copy was about £10 which is expensive, but cross stitch books usually are. I'm actually surprised they are still selling it as it is a few years old now.

@ Aerlinniel - Hehe, well I never thought I'd be able to do it either, as I am way too impatient, so I surprised myself there.
It annoys me though when people seem to think only women can do things like that. I remember reading a letter in a cross stitch magazine once, from a man, who wanted to join a cross stitch club but they wouldn't let him because he was a man.  I mean, I can understand that maybe they wondered if he had another motive, but there are plenty of clubs that both men and women join and they don't have any problems, so I think it's pretty unfair really.

Holy cow! *dies* That's a load of charts! I can see why it's so expensive then, even for a cross stitch book. I guess it's about time I actually took it out and looked at it then. I was waiting to hear from someone who actually had it before taking it out of the box. [We had to order it from France!]

Ooh! I cross stitch! I enjoy it quite a lot, actually. Only...with life and everything, it's been many months now since I picked up my needle and thread.
Going back a bit, breast cancer runs strong in my family. (As opposed to the force, whichh would be much cooler. ) My mom had it two summers ago but it was removed quickly, and my great-aunt died of it, as did my great-grandmother. My own grandmother passed on the gene, but she had removal surgery done as a precaution after her sister died, so she never actually got cancer.
So, I plan on getting mammograms rather regularly once I need to, since there's a good chance I will had breast cancer someday, too. _________________ <center> all we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us

Yeah, my brother does cross stitch as well... he's good but not as good as me.
^ Ouch. Well my aunt on my dad's side had it, and she recovered from it but died of a heart attack because of the treatment last year. And my mum's cousin had it about 15 years ago and she recovered as well, so I don't know if that means anything since my family is quite big, and out of all the women, they are the only ones to have had it tha I know of. Both my grandmothers died naturally so it's not like they have passed it on as it were. I think every one in five is meant to know at least one person who has it or had had it, so I wouldn't say it runs in our family really.
Ok, here's another thought. Would you say that LOTR could be percieved as mainly a boys thing, due to the battles and the all the rest of it? And yet, girls seem to equally like it as much, if not more so than boys.
Do you think the same could be said for Star Wars? That both male and females can like it? Because I remember specifically when they re-released Star Wars 10 years ago this May, and I was 9, I was the only female that was really into it at my school, and any boys that liked Star Wars, thought I was weird and wouldn't talk to me about it, in case other boys picked on them.  So I was just wondering if things have changed since "my day" and whether any of you girls ever had this problem.

I wish I could sew/cross stitch. Oh, that would be really cool. But like some others here, I don't possess the patience to spend so much time on something so, well pardon me for saying so, insignificant. I can see it becoming very tedious for me, though I've never really given it a fair try. The fact that the idea doesn't even excite me seems enough to convince me I shouldn't ever try it.
I also think my fingers aren't coordinated enough...they're rather short. _________________

@ JF: Oh yeah, I thought I said I'd already got it for my birthday. Anyway, thanks for telling me about all the charts, 'tis most helpful. We've already got a whole box of a hundred or so different threads, so hopefully I can get started soon.
Personally, if anyone told me that only boys could like things like LotR and SW I'd call them sexist. Although, it is true that LotR and SW are seen as having a mainly male fanbase, I think that can be disproved. Just look at our forum, how many of us are girls?
@ Rin: Oow.. yeah, my mum didn't have breast cancer but she did have a "benign mass" removed this summer. Nothing to worry about. I'll still get mammograms though as they're definitely life savers. Actually, I'm more worried about Alzhiemer's and ovarion cancer which run in my family.

It's something we should all worry about, but not overly much. Cancer and mental disease treatments are being perfected day by day. By the time we really have to worry about them, there'll probably be a concrete cure.
