uhh... I've been regular schedule since i was 12... O.o not fun!

@-Mrs. Haldy= I do feel your pain, to an extent. I've been cursed with 7 to 9 days of a menstral cycle. the shortest i've EVER gone is a week.

I thought I was like, the only one with that long of one... thankfully it's really light the last 3 days, but even still... it gets to be a pain, I can't go swimming for a whole week... yeah.

Gah, I feel for you all, I really do. :-(

Mine usually last about 5 days and they are usually pretty pain free. If they are going to be heavy, it's usually the first 2-3 days. The first day can be fairly bad with the cramps, but I just take an ordinary painkiller (dissolvable, I'm a wimp when it comes to taking tablets :P) and then I'm fine. The third day can be a little uncomfortable as well, but that usually only lasts for maybe 40 minutes.

What gets me though is the way it fools you into thinking the time is near, and yet it can be anything up to a week later. :eyeroll: I don't like the backpain I get beforehand though. It's a really weird kind of pain, not nice.

I'm the same way with the painkillers, JF. I can't swallow tablets to save my life as it makes me feel as though my throat is closing up... :yuck:

But yeah, the pain is weird. I always get this aching pain in my legs and it always seems to spread through out the following days. I always get so tired as well.

I usually end up melting them as I try so many times to get them down. :P And then if I do swallow them, I convince myself they've got lodged somwhere they shouldn't, 'cos it sure felt like that happened once.

Dissolvable ones work faster as well.

Ay, that must be terrible not to be able to swallow pills! My sister has that problem too, and I hate watching her in pain with nothing to do about it! My parents get awful mad that she won't just 'figure out' how to take a pill, but often she'll solve the problem by grinding the pill up and mixing it with applesauce.
Honestly, I don't know what I would do some days without my pain medication. When I started a few years ago, I had long, heavy, and intensely painful cycles. My doctor put me on hormone pills to level out my apparently wacky system, and now I'm much more normal, having 4 or 5 day periods with 2 or 3 heavy days, and some pain that is easily stopped by over-the-counter pain medication.

However, I think you should probably have either a frank talk with your mother on why you do not think you should take birth control, or just ignore her entirely. I don't think you'll have to worry about her forcing you to take them. [And by force, I mean literally forcing the pill down your throat.] I also think your mother may be in need of a reminder that you are 24, which means you are a legal adult, and that you know what is best for your body.

I have had a talk with her about but she sometimes doesn't listen really well I think. She doesn't go through it anymore (and han't or a few years now) and I think she sometimes forgets what it's like but then I sometimes remember that she went through the same long and painful one that I go through and my guess she wants to make it less agony for me but I don't want to do it it this way. I've been going through for 11 years and I'm use to it. If I was went to have a long and painful cycle, then that is what I have to deal with. Even though I do miss out on a lot during it.

That's one of the reason why I won't take them either.

What does help a lot for me though, is herb tea. I only have "it" :P about every 2 months (yay...), and only very lightly because of it. Well, the every two months thing was natural, but the very lightly thing is because of the herb tea. :)

It tastes awful, but it does really help. Maybe something you' want to give a try?

Herb tea? Hmm...I usually just drink green tea. Not for that reason but it actually helps sooth my cramps, the same with warm baths and showers.

I take maximum strength Midol and it works prety well. But I don't take it all the time. I only will when I really need it.

@-Inwe Calaelen: Wow, you've got it bad too. I will not use tampons either. I am not comfortable with the idea of them nor do I think anything belongs up there. Plus, I don't think they would work well for me anyway, especially since I bleed very heavily the first three days.

That's awful... thankfully I've never had a problem swallowing pills.
Except for the time my mom made me take a broken one... that was just nasty.
We know someone who had pills for medication for an ear infection and thought they were chewable... so he spent the first few days chewing 'em until his dad figured out they were swallow ones...

@ Mrs.Haldir: Ah well, you've done the most you can then I think. The best thing to do will be to ignore her or change the subject when she tries to bring it up. Eventually that may discourage her from even attempting to talk about it in the first place.

Ugh. Tampons are awful. They tell you to change them every 4 hours or else you could get TSS and I got so nervous about the first time I used one that I haven't used them since. They're just not very comfortable. :yuck:

Why would you use them after you're married?

I've never used one, only heard about them when I came here one day. Sound icky.

You know what I hate? Growing pains. Twinges. Aches. I mean should I still be getting these little twinges now? Or does it just differ from person to person. Because I'm such a worrier about my health, I always think it is something much worse. I managed to convince myself one year that perhaps there was something really wrong with me, as I'd read something about breast cancer, and I'd had these twinges and it worried me. :eyeroll:

Wait--JF, you can get twitches from growing pains?

Thank GOODNESS. I have random twitching spasms in my leg real often and I've always wondered what they were! That sounds about right.

I'm way to afraid of TSS to use tampons regularly. I'll use them if I have to (for swimming) for short periods of time, but pads (or napkins ;) ) are much more comfortable and easier to deal with.

(Um...JF, I think she meant that after she's married she'll be use to things...uh...being in that area. )

Well yeah.... I think... I mean I used to get little twicthes and twinges all over the place, so I always thought they may be growing pains... I could be wrong though. :P

Yeah I know... but why after you're married.... why can't you use towels (pads) ?

I hate growing pains.
I love growing, but I hate growing pains. One night I remember rolling around in bed in pain because my legs hurt so much...
