I have a claddaugh ring as well. I wore it for the two years I was with my ex, but I was always wore it right-side up though. It was mostly worn on my right ring finger and when he proposed to me, I moved it to my left one. But after we broke up, I stopped wearing it all together.

We have some great news for you. We’re married…..no not quite haha.
David finally asked the important question and Liza said YES (about 100 times) so we are now officially engaged.

And no, it did not go as planned and no, I did not do anything really crazy and risky but Liza liked it and said it couldn’t have been more romantic.

So now from Liza,

I was ready to go do my dancing class when David told me “nope you’re not going anywhere”. I think I’m a pretty flexible person but that was simply too fast for me and I was pretty confused. So I said no I have to go and left. (she is not as flexible as she thinks and she is stubborn too but that’s ok, “…I’m lookin for a hard headed woman…” (Steven, 1970something)).
Guess how well I taught my class after that. Then it got even more exciting when David called me and told me to dump the second class (cuz he organized a replacement) and bike to a certain spot where he picked me up. I had the impression all my girls knew more about what was going on than I did. (the whole country knew more). When he picked me up I had a pretty good idea of what was happening because we have been waiting forever and my heart was beating like crazy. David was looking at his watch and telling me where to drive when the call came and he was talking with some guy who apparently (or should I say thankfully) canceled our plans.

The tension went down and we drove home. I don’t know if I was relieved or disappointed. On the one hand I was very excited but on the other hand everything went so fast.
Obviously David didn’t give up and invited me out to a nice dinner. After that we took a walk up to the castle in the rain and…..walked back down again. We were already sitting in the car on the way home (about then I was pretty sure it wasn’t going to happen that night) but suddenly he “said stop the car, drive back”.
All evening I could feel him calculating and planning but now he was resolved and took me back to where we had been 10 minutes before. That was followed by a few minutes of waiting followed by the big surprise.

He put my up onto the slippery castle wall and told me to look down onto a lower level street. There I saw a big I LIEB DI (“I love you” in Austria German) spelled out on the street with enormous letters. (it was hard enough finding some place where the letters would fit) He never officially said that to me before because we had decided to keep that sentence until he was ready to propose. (A liza wish that was weird cuz I was allowed to say it in English because I love loads of people and was not able to say it to her even though I’ve loved her for so long already). He had waited so long and was now able to proclaim it with style. That was a pretty romantic way of doing it for me.
As if that wasn’t enough, he took me down to the street and I gave him a little paper heart I had made out of a leaf and he pretended to put it into his pocket but suddenly pulled out a little collapsible leather box thingy (from morocco). Then came the part I never expected. He kneeled down in front of me, of course I knew what was coming, by then, but that…oh I started crying then. It was all a little too much for me. (David: I stood back up cuz I thought she was going to lie down in the rain – when she is really excited her knees don’t work so well). Then I was hugging him. (And she didn’t tip over haha).
Full of excitement, I opened the thingy and was totally surprised by the content. Again I really didn’t expect that. David had made me a wonderful ring (forged in Fez, Morocco, worked on in a university mechanic shop in Dubai) with “BE MY MOOPTH” engraved in it. (Insider explanation – moopth is the most important person in David’s life, previously his Dog). As I read these three words (which took a while) time stopped. I was in a wonder world (there in the rain looking out over the city) I didn’t see anything other than David and his ring. I had tears of happiness in my eyes. (All over her face, I was almost worried). Then he asked me the important question…I was standing there without anything to give David back because the leaf heart wasn’t that much (she has this little problem that she can’t just let me spoil her she always has to be a perfectionist).
I was totally sure what my answer was. I said (about a 100 times) yes yes yes while jumping around like crazy. It was a really romantic situation. (she said yes and put the ring on by herself, as I said, a wild mustang I don’t want to tame. I asked her again if that was her official answer and if she was sure. She changed her mind and said no she wants to say yes with a big surprise like I had made. I said that wasn’t fair and that if she was sure she wanted to say yes that then was a good time.)
After that, we were kneeing down (this time both of us) and prayed together! So beautiful! We decided that the proposal couldn’t be more perfect…

A little form my (David’s) side. I had been trying to do this for more than a year. Everything from skydiving over the Dubai desert to red snow, and the most recent plan was for her to paraglide off the Gaisberg (a mountain in Salzburg) and fly over a field where I had laid out my proposal in the grass. Then I would be waiting for her when she landed and I would ask her and then we would go out to dinner etc…
I had been waiting for two weeks for the weather. It had been pretty stormy here when the paraglide pilot finally gave the ok signal and I tried to get the whole thing rolling. But 10 meters in front of the parking lot where she was supposed to suit up he called it off. I thought, oh man, now what. Now she knows what I have planned.
I checked the weather and it is supposed to be stormy for the next week and we really needed to get on with this proposal because we want to have enough time to plan the wedding.
Yeah we are weird. We were talking about marriage before we were even a couple and had a marriage date before I had proposed.
Anyway, so I decide to do it tonight anyway but it is raining and we hadn’t flown and she already knew what was going on. Plan B went bad because there was a concert going at that location. So I set up a plan with God that he tells me when I should do it. Because everything I had planned hadn’t worked for good reasons. I was pretty frustrated.
We went to this nice restaurant I had reserved to go to after I had asked her. It was really relaxing to talk to her and look at her and just have a romantic meal. I had the letters from the field with me and a vague idea of where I would put them on the castle mountain. When we went up there after the dinner she was all calmed down again and I though “hah, now I am gonna get her off guard”. The wind was going strong though and the letters would have blown away. Then she started saying things about planning in advance and stuff so I though, “ok we will go home and will make a planed meeting for when and how I ask her and she just won’t be surprised”. In the car I changed my mind and you know the rest of the story. She got quite a bit wrong though the first time through cuz certain things really stand out in her memory. It’s pretty cute that she was so excited that she can’t remember half of it.

Turns out it all couldn’t have been better. She told me later that the flying would have been all wrong cuz she didn’t want to hear (read) my proposal and be with some guy she had never met before. (she probably would have hugged him and he wouldn’t have been able to fly and then they’d be al busted up…not good). She also wants to have some time to prepare herself mentally for running off a mountain. So we will do that some other time…together.

(here he had a whole bunch about just life in general)

But none of that is important compared to the honor that it is to me that the most wonderful girl in the world has said YES to me.

So yeah, that's the story of how my friend David proposed to his wife Liza... they got married last month in Austria (she's Austrian and David met her in Austria when he was there for college. I met 'im when he was interning here in Dubai for a little while), and I wanted to go so bad.

He still hasn't sent pictures, which is probably the worst of it all.
Oh well, I know he's got a LOT going on, he's finishing up his college thesis among lotsa other things.

Yeah, I've heard of promise rings [my mum had one which basically signified that she promised to abstain until marriage], but not claddaugh rings. I think that's awesome though. Maybe I should talk to my parents about getting one, since abstinence til marriage is something I'm adamant about. :)

What a great story, Night! Very touching and beautiful. *le nod* Thanks for sharing.

^ :teehee: Seriously though... I have an ex-friend who's dating this guy... and he told all of his friends that he's only going out with her for sex which, apparently, they have about twice a day (they do go home alone at lunch, as witnessed by my own eyes). I think that's probably the most disgusting and indecent thing ever.

Nighty, that's a realllyyyy cute story! Thanks for posting it :D

I've always wanted a claddagh ring... :)

Besides, there's so much risk involved for teenagers and even adults. Unwanted pregnancies and STDs are no laughing matter.

You're welcome!!

@Aerlinniel: Yeah, they make a wonderful couple, and I've only seen one picture of them... but a couple times in his emails to me David has referred to her and the way he talks about her you can just see that they're perfect for each other (he calls her "my Liza" and all sorts of other stuff...)

^ Yeah... much as I HATE romance and chick flicks and all that ucky stuff (other than fairytales, those can be good, but my favorite is Finn MacCool, which has no romance), I can't wait to get married...

I second that. I think I wouldn't accept if he didn't propose to me on one knee. I might change my mind, though. But it's the best way, really. :P

I think I'm with a lot of people when I say, Eww! Well, okay sex in general is a wonderful thing and is just human nature but, that *points up* is just disgusting. Leave it to men on that part. I am betting this girl has no idea she is being used. If any case, if a girl is being used, she will find out at some point and it normally is the hard way and the hard way ends up being the really ugly way. *seen it happen*

They're actually pretty easy to find. A lot of jewelry stores sell them.

^I know! "Eww!" is absolutely right...
And that's exactly what she doesn't realise... I could tell you whole lot more of what he said about it (unknown to her of course) but it's so gross that it'd probably be against the rules to post out in the open. But yeah guys lose nothing when they have sex... they gloat about it to everyone and it pleases them. But girls lose their virginity, their innocence and their dignity (if in high school) once she jumps into it...
She just doesn't get it. *sad shake of head*

I know, eh... today we've actually started to predict when the girl's going to get pregnant... I'd give it a month or two.

*high fives FF* Thanks for boarding the traditional train! :P

@ Haldy: As awful as that sounds, it truly is reality. I've seen 3 pregnant girls walking around campus so far this year, and it makes me so sad to see them. It really isn't that hard to get "protection", is it? Seriously, most things you need for that kind of stuff can be bought at most supermarkets. It's such a simple thing, and I don't understand why people don't use it.

Apparently it is. A lot of women just refuse to have their men (ones who actually have a brain) use them cause they claim it's uncomfortable. Some actually embarrassed to by them. Oh suck it up, truthfully, it's a bit more embarrassing ringing them up the cash register. Well, not to me anyway. I've worked in a grocery store for three years so I have rung up a lot of those things. I was never bothered by it. I would sometimes make a wise crack in my head everytime I had rung them up just because I could. XD My younger thinks they're uncomfortable too and oh hell, she just recently thought she was pregnant but then found out she wasn't. *shakes head* For the sake of herself, she should just use a bloody condom. She's only 21 and cannot actually afford to have a baby as it is and lastly, she says she doesn't want to have a baby and yet she tries to sometimes. I don't understand her. Then there's my younger cousin who just turned 22 and had twins at 21 and hell, is going to have another baby. :annoyed2:
I've known enough woman whom had been pregnant, had babies, yada, yada and half were younger than me. (24) Sorry but 21 and younger is just too young to be getting pregnant. At my age I think it's still too young. Why all so young? I personally, don't really care about having a child. If any case I'd be like 30 if I decide to.

Hello all,

How is everyone doing? It has been horrible past three days. First, last

Wenseday, I found out that (just when I got my brace off) that my cyst

returned. Then Yesterday morning, (Thursday), I had my favorite mug of

hot chocolate in one hand, and a glass of water in the other, cd case

under my arm, and slippers on, and I was at the top of the flight of

stairs, and our dog was in front of me, and I slipped on her leash, and

fell, on my already injured back, all the way down, and glass, (from the

mug) cut my knuckles, and really scrachted up my back. So I'm in

INTENSE pain. So please pray about me, thank you.

Love you all, you are all AWESOME!!!!!!
