I voted very hard, for I bought the English version, which is not my native language.

I think it was easy for me to read it(I bought FOTR bout a year before the movie came) ,and as I saw the movie i reliesed that I have the book so it was very interesting with the parts that are not showed on screen.

Well I read LotR every year, and i read the books before movie. The Fellowship of the ring to me was understandable but not smooth.

It was really easy for me to read. I read it (well, the whole LotR book, not just FotR) hastily before I saw the first film (didn't want the film to wreck it for me) and it was quite straightforward. Unlike Tolkien's other books (excluding the Hobbit) :P

A little, I mean, I did not understand half of the conversations in the council of Elrond or the conversation with Gandalf when he tells Frodo about the ring. It's easy now, of course, but that's cause I've read all the books and I get it now. ;)

Well, unlike it seems most of you, I was much older when I first read the book and yes it was after I had seen the film; thus I'm sure that that made it somewhat easier for me. However, I didn't find any of it difficult. As a matter of fact, the council of Elrond is one of my favorite parts to read. Call me strange!

I did not understand it completely when I younger. I don't think I had the attention span. But, I wouldn't say it's an overlychallenging piece of literature. Just requires a bit of imagination ;)

FotR was the easiest LotR book for me to read; my dad gave me his copy when I was 8, and I read it in two weeks. I bought TTT a week later, and that's the LotR book I found most difficult to get through because of all the battles.

I thought it was hard the first time, not because it was difficult to read, but because I didn't like reading all the poems and songs the first time. I thought they were annoying. Then, when I read it the second time, I loved the songs and poems and stuff.

I didn't find it hard. I did skip the poems and songs the first time I read it. So that might be why! :)

You know, I wasn't used to the whole fantasy thing yet when I read FOTR, and The Hobbit hardly prepared me for LOTR, so....I still was a bit used to the language...

I'm making no sense.

I was introduced to Tolkien and LOTR by my English teacher my junior year in high school...it was a very easy read for me.

It was the beginning of my love affair with LOTR and Tolkien that still is going strong today....

Not at all. I can understand that some people wouldn't understand the Council of Elrond (I have had some comments from friends) because it is always talking about things in different places and times, and not really involved in the plot.

Not at all. I can understand that the Council of Elrond would test many people's concentration, as it makes many references that would not make much sense without background information; but I always find somthing new when I read that chapter.
