I couldn't find a thread on this topic... my apologies if there is already one.
Are there any other classical music nuts on here, besides me? I love to discuss classical music... but it's hard to have a discussion by yourself! Cm'on now, please post!

Oh, I love classical music. I used to play violin, so that increases my appreciation of classical music all the more.

I listen to classical music when I want to relax, or when I'm studying (for example) and I want some music but not something loud/pounding/etc. It doesn't distract me but I still get to listen to soothing music.
Good violin music is wonderful. Like Joshua Bell, or Itzhak Perlman, to name a couple.

I really like Classical Music, too. Sometimes there are moments when I just need to listen to Classical music. I really like Beethoven or Schubert for example, but also others

@Earyende - I love violin music... I was just listening to the Carmen Fantasy by Sarasate this morning... It's got some serious violin in it.
Who are everyone's favorite composers, and maybe some of your favorite pieces? I love the music of pretty much all of the Russian composers... especially Rachmaninoff and Rimsky-Korsakov. I also enjoy listening to the three B's. I think I have too many "favorite" composers... if there is such a thing... I could list them all day! One of my absolute favorite pieces in the whole world is "The Moldau" from "Ma Vlast" by Smetana; Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov is another very pretty piece.

i love classical music. hands down best piece ever written is the finale from swan lake, by tchaikovsky - it has this incredible sense of passion and yearning which makes my heart ache. i once heard an arrangement of the piece for two violins, cello and piano which absolutely blew me away - it had the same feeling of urgency as the original orchestration, but it sounded almost sinister. it sounded amazing, and it was really interesting to see how the music could be interpreted so differently.
also...as a flautist, i obviously really love flute music. john rutter's suite antique, widor's romance and faure's morceau de concours are particular favourites. they sound incredible, but they also feel really beautiful to play.

Oh I love classical music. I never really played any when I was in school. I mean sometimes, but nothing like the orchestra.
Growing up with NPR is probably why I love it so much.
Mozart is my favourite. Tchaikovsky is also a favourite. I listen to lots of choir music too. My favourite being Libera. Absolutely brilliant boys choir. And I do listen to gregorian monks if that counts as classical.
I dunno, any kind of classical music is lovely. I love any kind of waltz too. I could do without the obsession over Beethoven though. While his music is great, I'm more of a Mozart fan myself.
I really love just how spectacular the movements can be, you know? Like awe inspiring kind of music. And then in a moment it can be SOO simple and so quiet but still so breathtaking. Also, I'm the kind of girl who can literally rock out to classical music. How bizarre am I?!!!

I love some classical music - not all though. I love Mozart but I couldn't care much for the Wagner type music.
The Magic Flute is my favorite opera!

I love the subject of his operas... but I just can't take the actual... "singing" of them.. too much shrieking!

Diff'rent strokes for Diff'rent folks as they say.
On another note, I'm growing quite fond of Bizet. I blame Little Einsteins
