Name: Gothien
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Age: In her twenties
Parents: Unknown
Sibling(s): none
Marital status: Single
Children: Niphredil
Description: Very pale, with a thin, bony face; dark hair and gray eyes. She has many scars and wears an iron collar around her neck; both reminders of her days in slavery.
Weapon(s): Gothien has never owned a weapon.
Personality: Extremely tense and easily frightened; has great difficulty in trusting people
Background: Gothien was born in Osgiliath, five years before the War of the Ring. She loved flowers more than anything, and would often venture to the outskirts of the city to gather her favorites. It was on one such venture that she was captured by a band of roving orcs at the age of six. They brought her to Mordor, where she became a slave. For fifteen years at least, she labored unceasingly in the pits of Mordor, along with many others who shared her bad fortune. Then one cold winter’s day, there was much commotion among the orcs, and a young man was thrown into the slave pit. He had dark skin and fierce eyes, and, judging by his garb, was one of the Haradrim. Although the people of Harad had become loathed in many parts of Middle Earth, Gothien felt oddly drawn to this stranger. She attempted speaking with him, but found that he spoke the tongue of Harad, which was unfamiliar to her. Instead, she offered him some of her water, which he accepted gladly. During the hours of darkness that followed, the two found happiness together, even in the cold slave pits of Mordor. When Gothien awoke at dawn, the Haradrim man was nowhere to be found; either escaped or executed, she could not say. She never saw him again. During the months that followed, Gothien found that she was with child, and became afraid. She, along with several others of like mind, began making plans of escape. Finally, they managed to carry out their plan, although it cost two of their number their lives. Terrified of being pursued, they fled far into the North, finally reaching a lone inn, where they might rest in safety. Sadly, Gothien’s two companions soon died there, due to exhaustion. After burying them, Gothien stayed at the inn for a week, seeing as the innkeeper had allowed her to stay free of charge if she worked in the kitchen. It was during this week that she gave birth to a daughter, whom she named Niphredil. By this time, she had made several friends at the inn and had started to regain her trust in other people, and decided to stay until she could find a dwelling place of her own.

Name: Maralyn Imladiel
Gender: Female
Race: Elf
Age: Several thousand years old, but looks to be in her early thirties or so.
Parents: Elmagon and Laifenwen (both deceased)
Sibling(s): Taranu
Marital status: Married to Mindtraveller
Children: none
Description: Tall & pale, with a fierce, yet wise complexion; black hair and soft brown eyes
Weapon(s): A sword of Elvish design, "Gwanu"; belonged to her father before he was slain. Maralyn can also use a bow fairly well, but would much rather fight at a close range.
Personality: Kind-hearted and often sentimental, but is prone to outbursts.
Background: Maralyn was born in Rivendell in the beginning of the Third Age. Her father, Elmagon, was a ranger under the command of Elladan, and was often away on patrol. When Maralyn was seven years old, she and her mother, Laifenwen, received word that Elmagon had been killed in a goblin raid. Laifenwen, who was pregnant at the time, fell into a great mourning, refusing to eat or sleep. On the third day after receiving news of Elmagon’s death, Laifenwen gave birth to Maralyn’s brother, Taranu. Sadly, she died soon after. Maralyn and her newborn brother were sent to live with their maternal grandfather, Celion, who welcomed them with open arms. During the years that followed, both children grew up healthy and strong, although Maralyn never got used to living with her grandfather. She would often gaze out the window for hours, simply thinking. The young she-elf began to show an interest in swordplay in her early teens, and spent most of her time at the Range; either practicing with her sword or her bow. After nearly fifty years had passed since her parents died, Maralyn decided that the time had come to leave Rivendell. Although Celion protested greatly, she left her birthplace, carrying with her the sword Gwanu, which had been previously owned by her father. Maralyn quickly adapted to the life of a wanderer, and met many friends during her travels. One such friend, a wizard named Mindtraveller, became very dear to her heart, and Maralyn soon found that Trav (as he insisted upon being called) had similar feelings for her. The two were married after nearly five years of waiting, and are currently dwelling in Trav’s cottage in Mirkwood.

Name: Taranu Imladion
Gender: Male
Race: Elf
Age: Seven years younger than Maralyn
Parents: Elmagon and Laifenwen (both deceased)
Sibling(s): Maralyn
Marital status: Married to Lhunanwyn
Children: Toldin (adopted), Sandiel, Markham, Lariya, Yashion, and Risa
Description: Of medium height, with a gentle face; black hair and brown eyes
Weapon(s): none; Taranu never made a point of studying weaponry.
Personality: Taranu has a very gentle spirit, and abhors the sight of blood. He has a tendacy to make a big deal over matters of small importance.
Background: Taranu never knew his parents, instead growing up under the care of his grandfather, whom he loved greatly and strove to please in every way imaginable. However, Taranu’s real comfort was Munraniel, his nurse. It was she whom he would confide in, and it was also she who taught him how to cook at an early age. Cooking became Taranu’s passion, and by the time he was 17 years old, his culinary skills had become widely known in Rivendell. He soon became the head cook in the house of Morhilion, a famous Elven physician. When Taranu was around sixty years of age, love was revealed unto him in the form of a young Elven maiden from Mirkwood. Lhunanwyn was her name, and she had travelled to Rivendell after her entire family had been slain by orcs. Taranu, being dazzled by her beauty, immediately befriended her, and the two fell in love. They were married soon after, and a great feast was held the day of their wedding. At the time, Lhunanwyn was caring for a small Elven boy whose parents had apparently been lost or killed. After their marriage, Taranu gladly accepted the child into their household, bestowing the name “Toldin” upon him. Since then, Lhunanwyn has given birth to five more children, each of which holds a special place in Taranu’s heart. The family currently resides in Rivendell, in the very house which Taranu’s parents made their abode in ages past.
