  • Sold her own clothing designs at Cook Street Market, Auckland

  • First worked with Peter Jackson on Heavenly Creatures (1994)

  • Her name is pronounced “Nyla”

  • Often read her mother’s French Vogue magazine as a child

  • Her costumes for The Last Samurai (2003) were displayed in the window of the department store Barney’s on Madison Avenue, New York during the build-up to the 2004 Academy Awards

  • Designed music videos before turning to costume designing for film and TV

  • Costume designed the mini-series The Rainbow Warrior Conspiracy (1989)

  • Edited her own fashion magazine, ChaCha for five years

  • Her husband Hamish is an art historian
