Rose Cotton was a long-time friend of Sam Gamgee, who used to swim with her and her brothers in the Pool in the Shire. When Sam went off on a journey with Mr. Frodo Baggins, Rosie was distraught, and after Sam didn't return for a year, most hobbits said he was dead. Rosie, though, expected him to return in Spring TA 3019, and, after a long wait, was delighted when he returned in late Autumn. Sam and his companions stayed at Rosie's family's house during the preparations for the Battle of Bywater. After that final battle in the War of the Ring, Sam and Rosie married on May 1st, TA 3020. They moved into Bag End with Frodo, and after Frodo departed across the Sea, the house belonged to Sam. Rosie and Sam lived there with their thirteen children. Their firstborn, Elanor, became a handmaiden to Queen Arwen, and their third daughter, Goldilocks, married Pippin's son, Faramir. In FO 61, after 62 years of blissful marriage to Sam, Rosie died at the age of 98.
