Hello everyone! This is my first time being on a forum. This is all new to me so I am looking forward in participating in some of the forums. Especially Literary discussions on Tolkein. I just started reading the trilogy about a year ago and want to read "The Simarillion". Will it tell more about the Elves in this book? I love classical literature and am a Jane Austen fan. Well, that's it for now.

you sound like a Tolkien fan that's going to have a lot of fun here. for an avatar, you can choose one from the Gallery by clicking 'show gallery' or 'view gallery' - one of those i think. and then select the one you would like in your profile. and possibly then you click on 'select avatar' or something like that. ok, i know that made no sense at all -- i haven't been in that area for a while. but i know someone will make more sense than i. *coughElbcoughcough*

- or you can use one from your computer, use browse for that...)

You seem very into LotR like the rest of us, so you will fit right in here. I loved the Silmarillion! It was a very long read but very informative and another wonderful masterpiece by Tolkien. If I remember correctly there is tons of stuff about the first elves and stuff, but its more like a history not really an informative piece with stuff about marriage, how old they are when they reach maturity, and other stuff like that, if thats what you were looking for. I'd read Morgoth's Ring too.....its very informative on Elves.

Anyway! For one who hasn't read the LotR books until recently, you seem to be very knowlegeable concerning Lord of the Rings. Yes, you should read the Silmarillion - as it gives you so much more in-depth information on how life was before the War . . . it is absolutely packed with information. I think of it as a compilation of different stories, from romances to adventure and things in-between . . . I would recommend you to read it. A large part of it deals with the Elves.

Jane Austen? I've read Pride and Prejudice before . . .

Oh - and by the way - nice name!! If I'm remembering correctly, there is already a Nienna and a Lady Nienna. Also a Nienor. Hmmm . . . very common names.
