Post subject:  Greetings!

I came across this site a few weeks ago and decided to join the forum because it reminds me of a simliar one I was a member of quite a long time ago that (mainly) revolved around Star Wars but which had a small LOTR section and a few other fantasy and sci-fi related things. It's a shame that these sites are rare now as I prefer them to social media sites like facebook and although I am active on twitter, I don't think that you can create a good community there because there always seems to be some arguing or trolling going on.

I write fan fiction, do a little roleplay, but it's not that easy finding a good Tolkien site that sticks around or stays active so this is something that's a bit more to my liking - one of the issues I find with a site that's only just dedicated to roleplaying is that there is pressure for you to keep active on them if you want to keep your characters there - that's not an easy thing to do when there is no one to talk to. I also play LOTRO I can and have some characters on the Evernight server. Hopefully this forum will be more active again once the amazon tv series starts. I look forward to sticking aorund.

Welcome! It is rare to have an actual living breathing Tolkienite register and post these days. Sadly it's mostly spambots coming to haunt these deserted streets. This place has been for the most part abandoned by the powers that be and there is only less than a handful of up old gaffers left wandering about. Even we have sort of become 'tree'ish' and only appear on occasion.

I agree that time and social media has taken its toll on most of the legacy Tolkien sites that sprang up in the approach and wake of the PJ movies. Tolkienforums seems to have had a resurgence thanks to a new site owner who is passionate about keeping it alive, updated, and free of spambots.

I don't know if there will be much of a bump from the Amazon series. There was little of the anticipated bump from the (horrid) PJ Hobbit fanfics at the beginning of the decade. I have approached the owner of this site on the facebook group about this place, and though they keep it going, it clearly isn't a priority in their busy life like it was when they were in college. They are running a business and have kids and such, but won't give a mod key to anyone they don't personally know.

So welcome to this fine site!

Hi And welcome to AU! I'm so glad to see more people joining again!

I too have had my fill of modern day social media. I much prefer old
Forums like this. I've tried to enjoy my interests on the newer sites but
even on other sites than Twitter it seems there's always some kind of
fighting going on over something as well as a lot of people seeking out
fights and it's just exhausting... Also the lack of regulation there makes it
all worse. I always appreciated that here we had rules to avoid certain topics
so as to prevent fights and keep the fun going.

I really hope too that we can revive this place more and have lots of great
conversations here like we used too. ^^

Hanasian-do you mind if I ask when that was? I wasn't super close with Arwen
but she and I did speak a few times. So I wonder if she'd give me the login for the site.
Idk but it's worth a shot for me to ask I think since the mods never come around anymore. :/
