I voted Theoden because I didn't think he was gonna die . He was almost at victory...and then Eomer's reaction in the EE of RotK was very sad . A pretty funny spoof of the scene is here, tho:

hmm... i'm so morbid today.... Boromir. And reading fan fics where he dies always make me cry... not that i am a fangirl or what *shudders* but i really feel sorry for him. he was a hero, a good guy, OK, tempted by the Ring but due to his fears about falling of Gondor... i kinda understand him.
also Theoden & Gandalf. Mithrandir... i almost cried when i saw FotR - hey, i was 12! (it still happens now, though). Theoden was.... cool person. Great king and powerful after realeased from his spell.
Then Theodred. We've never seen or heard much of him but i think he was a great person too. I wish i could meet him...
And the last but not the least - Haldir. When i saw him die it took all my efforts not to at least sob (hey! an elf died! is it not enough that they are alread fading?! {an orc: "NO!"}) but i remained cool. I was with boys
OK, i told ya i'm kinda morbid today

Theoden's death probably made me the saddest cause eowyn had lost her cousin then the closest thing she had to a father at the time, also Theoden was really cool.

I have chosen for Boromir..but that does not mean that the other ones didnt made me sad...i will make a list.
1.Boromir
2.Haldir
3.Theoden ( poor eowyn.. )
4.Theodred (did not see it yet)
5.Gandalf
the reason gandalf is on 5 is cause he came back..and that made me happy again..
And Hama..that is why i could not find him anywhere...i did not know that he died....stupid wargs....!!!

Theoden's was the saddest for me, book and movie.
Haldir's was definetely next! *doesn't know what to say about that*
But I remember crying when Gandalf died in FotR (mainly because I thought he was dead.) After that time it didn't bother me.

I voted for Borromir. But afterall, i was moved to tears when Theoden died..and for Haldir,i was shocked to see an elf dies. For gandalf, i was moved to tears too but was so happy that he returns!

Gandalf didnt really "die", so i cant say that was the saddest death. I would have to pick Boromir and Haldir.

Haldir's death, I think, was the saddest. My reasons?
A) Because I'm totally in love with him
B) Because he saw all his dead kin about him
C) The music
D) He died for people that were not his own race

i said theoden - i find the idea that through his death he has proved himself worthy of the hall of his fathers very moving. i didn't cry in the film, but i wept when he died in the book.

Boromir. After he got free himself from the effect of the ring and his failed attempt to save the hobbits from Uruks by piercing his body three arrows by Lurtz. Very sad scene

Gandalf didn't exactly die so it's Haldir on my list. It was so unneccessary.

I know Gandalf didn't really die, but when I first read the book his "death" made me cry, and it still depresses me whenever I watch FOTR. Boromir, Haldir, and Theoden I felt sorry for too.
