Looks interesting! New footage, new commentaries, etc.
I think this is just about perfect with our Return of the Rings here
EDIT: Read the third post in this thread for more info. Thanks, Ainu!

Meep! How exciting, I'll definitely be saving up my money to buy those now. According to the article they will be sold starting 29 August. I'm assuming that's this year...
Anyone know where we can prebook them? [i.e. Amazon.com, etc.]

And best news, it's NOT a rumor! Guess what; it has been confirmed by the official site!!
http://www.lordoftherings.net/index_400 ... eddvd.html
These Limited Editions feature both the theatrical and extended versions of the film plus an all-new documentary. But they won't be around forever - own all three on August 29th!
Disc One
Includes both the Theatrical version and the Extended version of the film.
You can choose which version to watch!
Disc Two
Features a new feature-length documentary with never-before-seen "making of" footage.
Filmmaker Costa Botes, who was personally selected by Peter Jackson, took a unique approach to telling the story of the cast and crew experience on The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
By letting the raw footage speak for itself, the result is a fascinating telling of the challenges, training, and camaraderie that resulted in the greatest adventure on film.
Spread the news. I actually came out of lurk mode to post this XDD Heheh... going now to the rest of the net...

That's cool they're having a dvd with both the theatrical and the EE stuff, but I don't think I'll get it cause I have 4 copies of LOTR: ROTK on video and the EE boxed set.

Oy. They know that we Ringers are suckers for new stuff like this.
Who can resist? Probably not I... if I can find some money..

lol, we have 6 copies at mine. FotR on VHS, TTT movie ed on DVD, RotK move ed on DVD, then the EE boxed set.
But somehow I suspect this new version will turn up in said house anyway. Whether it will be purchased or rented at Hastings, though, is yet to be discovered.

I'd love to see the documentaries, but I really don't see the point of buying the films all over again just to get them - mind if they'd offered a good selection of deleted scenes as well, I might have been tempted!

*drools* We probably won't get them because we already have all three Special Extended Editions (and who cares about the theatrical version?! Extended all the way!) But I am interested in the new commentary. But I don't think I have the cash. Babysitting pays well but not THAT well...
Edit: Okay, I just went and looked at them. I want those babies. I want them pretty bad. Maybe I can get a summer job...

Awesome! I can't wait! The only problem I'll have now is deciding whether to buy those versions or the extended edition versions... I have the regular versions now, but I really wanted the EE for the deleted scenes and extras, however if I get these new dvds I still get the EEs, but with a documentary! Choices, choices!
