I can read and write Tengwar and have started trying to teach myself the languages, but it's a very slow process. It's not quite possible to reach complete fluency, but I'd love to be able to reach the point where I could translate a few phrases and sentences here and there, and maybe do some reconstructing of my own. Both forms of Elvish are incredibly gorgeous and rich I'd love to learn them. :) Hooray to the genius of Prof. Tolkien! :)

Indeed, Tolkien had an extra special skill to create such beautiful languages- he actually said that the Elves were created simply to incorporate the language, meaning that the language came first and he simply created the Elves to put it to good use! I find it incredible that one man can create so much, have such an imagination...

I am gradually learning various Elvish phrases, but I think it will be a long time before I learn the Tengwar...

I know only the basics of Elvish ("good bye", "hello", "thank you") - but I know nothing of how to write it! I'm thinking of trying to learn, but it's probably too much of a challenge. :bye2:

You can read the Elvish alphabet??? Doesn't that take a lot of studying? I know it's all in the back of RotK - or at least I think that's Elvish, some kind of alphabet - :bye2:

I am working on learning Sindarin. I have a work book that I printed out from www.councilofelrond.com and it is really good. I am doing really good. I can construct sentences and other things. You should really check it out if you really want to learn elvish.

I can write Tengwar on the computer really easily (both the Sindarin style and the Quenya style), and read some with a little more effort. I can say a few phrases and words in both Sindarin and Quenya, but I really really hope to someday be fluent in Quenya!

Elvish is an important thing in my life, I find that it is much more meaningful than any other language, If you don't study it I recommend it.
