I don't think it's worthless at all. It's so beautiful. Well, it isn't a language that you can use in the same way as other non-fictive languages. But as I guess others already written: It makes come closer to all in the LotR-world. And I'm dreaming about reading a text in elvish in the book and actually understand it. And even if you can't talk with anyone, you can still translate poetry and stuff. It's just fun to know a language that not everyone knows.

To some people who are not very into Tolkien, Elvish may be worthless. After all, it's not the international language on passports, or anything like that! But to me, it's a wonderful creation and a fun hobby. Well, I have a lot of it (that I wrote myself) up on my wall... need I say more?

I love Elvish, and nobody could ever convince me that it's worthless. It is gorgeous, even if incomplete, and it's a wonderful hobby.

Although I barely know enough to formulate a sentence I am still very excited that I have decided to learn Quenya. I am LOTR obsessed and anything to do with middle earth for that matter. It will never be worthless to me.

I think for fun and games - go ahead. But Elvish isn't anything that'll ever help you in "real life". You can't apply for a job and say "oh I can definitely flip burgers better than the rest; I can speak elvish!" The only exceptions where I could think that maybe there'd be a point to knowing elvish would be working as a historian, focusing mainly on Tolkien and his works. I mean, sure, it's a fun thing and it's cool if you want to learn it, but I had a friend once who was under the delusion that it'd help her greatly in life and sorry to burst her bubble - but no.
So yeah, if someone wants to learn elvish for the fun of it then I think that's cool, but it's not really applicable to any realistic part of life.

It's fine to tall among friends without no one knowing what we are saying .

Alatáriël Telemnar wrote: It's fine to tall among friends without no one knowing what we are saying . Yeah, but you could do that with a number of languages. If I learned Japanese and talked to a friend of mine who had also learned it no one around us would have even the tiniest clue of what we were saying. Of course I get that elvish would be fun to know to the point where you can talk it with a specific person or two around others and make sure the conversation is still private, it's not necessary as such. And it's not applicable in important real life situations. Like, during a job interview for a big company it might look really good if you know how to speak Mandarin because it's such a widely spoken language, but saying "I can speak elvish" which basically no one else (exaggerating, of course) can isn't going to get you the job.

I only speak the truth. Or eh, something of that effect.
Someday I'll learn some elvish phrases for the fun of it, but at this point I've got things to learn that I'll actually need in life.

^ Like I said, for fun go ahead, and as long as you don't delude yourself into thinking that it'll be "useful" when it comes to your career etc in the future then go for it. Have fun and enjoy life, etc.
