I am learning quenya and I wanted to know if the letters used are symbols different from our own languages.

If you mean the Elvish letter forms used to write Quenya (and other languages), then yes they are different from the Roman Alphabet for example -- although the Roman Alphabet can also be used to write Quenya of course.
The basic shapes of the tengwar or Elvish 'letters' (not to be confused with the Elvish runes) can be found in the Appendices to The Return of the King. Although I'm not wholly sure I answered your question actually.
