Post subject:  Elvish names...

Take two (tried this before, but in the wrong part of the forum).

Long story short, I need some Elvish names that could blend, not too obtrusively, into English speaking society. For now I need at least one, a female name for a main character. Something attractive though not too weird. Eventually I'll need a few others, mostly female.

I'm working on a novel; current history (non-fantasy), sort of romantic thriller, in which the Eldiel (Elves) are a reality, though rare, and quietly blended in to human society.

I've seen some short lists of names, but most would stand out as really different, and these 'Eldiel' don't want to be recognized as anything other then human. Yeah, I know that within the story they could just take regular human names, but I would rather they had Elvish ones that just didn't stand out. If that makes sense.

I've also seen a name generator, but don't know how realistic it would be, and the process for sampling Elvish names is...clumsy.

I thought of making something up, but I don't have enough understanding of the (preferably Quenya) language to know how you would even begin to do that.

If anyone is enough into the language study, and would be willing to dialogue with a new writer, it would be incredibly awesome.

By the way, my online presence is sporadic, so I'll respond to any communication as soon as I can. And if you wouldn't mind an email dialogue, I would appreciate a note at nedit116@gmail.com.

Thank you ahead of time.

Elanor... for one.

OK, perhaps a fairly obvious example I admit :)

Perhaps Elen too (Quenya 'star').

Elthir,
Thanks. Perhaps obvious to you...but I'm still noobish. That's exactly the type of name(s) I was looking for. If any more thoughts, let me know.

And, by the way...sorry for the responce time. As I said, real sporadic.

Oh cool. Are you talking about like, a real legit novel, or just for fun? Any which way though it sounds really interesting :)
Um..How about Miriel or Ana (or Anna)? (Elen's a really pretty Elvish-like name btw I think you should use it ;))

Ah good additions there with Miriel and Anna 'gift' [Melian means 'Dear gift' and Annatar 'Gift-lord'].

Oh, and I only meant obvious in that Elanor is Sam's daughter's name. I wasn't trying to sound like a Tolkien language expert or anything...

... as I'm not :-D

Maybe also Linde ['Song, tune']?

Thanks all! Great ideas, better then the ones I was finding.
EraisuithielS, yeah, real novel. :) It was one that was largely written, but I just wasn't satisfied with it's direction (kind of a adventure/thriller something or other). I put it on the shelf for a while, then had a brainstorm with turning it into a current (time-frame) scifi. What does elvish have to do with scifi? ;) That's the twist of the book.
Thanks again for the ideas, your help meant a lot.

PS. When I get more questions, I'll post them here. And if you have any other name ideas...I'll eventually need a male name too.

Naira means something like "heart of fire", and you could use Elena for a variation of Elen

How about Arion for a guy name? It's a name of a Greek mythology horse (from Rick Riordan's series) but it sounds Elf-like too :D
