Aya, I don't know if there is already a topic about names of this is the right place to post. How did you choose your forum name? Does it have a meaning? To create my name, I took the name of my daughter, translated it into English and then looked in the namelist on A-U. Thenidiel means faith or true. My own name is so unusual I couldn't translate it. And I liked the sound of Thenidiel.
I hope you don't mind me telling you this but it looks like the words
*thenid and
*thenin meaning "firm, true, abiding" published in
The Lost Road were misread for
N thand, thann. This was corrected in
Vinyar Tengwar number 46, which looked at a number of entries from Etymologies.
Anyway, in a much later source (later than Etymologies), written after
The Lord of the Rings, Tolkien wrote (see Words, Phrases And Passages, base SAT, SATAR):
"(...) Q astar (...), faith, loyalty (not belief). S. astor, astorad "loyalty". Cf names Astoron/Astoreth feminine [QN]" JRRT
So here we have
Astoreth based on the word
astor and the feminine name is actually attested by Tolkien.
I think we can have a new thread for names in the language forum. Or no?
