Just recently, my sister was watching some show where a nerdy character was naming topics worthy of discussion, and among them were "How about...the towers of Orthanc and Barad-Dur???" I was repulsed at first, seeing the main character's reaction to be rather negative, but then sorta realized...
heh heh, they're recognizing us!!!! so, okay, we get air time, but it still says only nerdy, hygiene-impaired, pocket protector-bearing freaks like LotR. The freaks I agree with, but everything else is off...

^lol, i find that really funny! it does make us fans look bad though.

Has anyone seen or heard what the media has called 8- 12 year olds? TWEENS! Yes tweens. My friend was making a speech on the children of today, and when she mentioned the word tweens i went beserk "a TWEEN is not an 8-12 year old. It is a teenage hobbit in their irrespnsible twenties to thity three which is their coming of age!"

^I was reading FotR recently, and I cracked up when I saw Tolkien using that word. It means somthing alot different now lol :)

Okay cool thread, ~RinielAranel~. :-D
Well, most of the time it doesn't make me mad but rather overly happy. Just depending on the case. For me the calling of the islanders mad me mad but pretty well all of the other stuff doesn't bother me.
As for what I have seen in the media latley...on Still Standing (comedy show) Bryan (the geeky son) came into the house all happy wtih his other geeky looking friends and Bill (his father) asked him why he was so happy and then went on to ask him if it was over another Frodo-Potter book. I relize that that was supposed to be a slap in the face for geeks and LotR fans alike but I thought that it was funny and had no problem with it because in honesty I am a LotR fan and can be kind of "geeky" and have no problem with "geeks" rather the oppisit... However I do understand how others could be offend by it. (shrugs)
Then on Reba (another comdey show) Barbara Jean told Terry (an ultra short man) to "Come on you little Hobbit or I will stuff you in my purse!".
So though years after LotR came out I am still finding LotR related things in the media. :-D
Anybody else have any new LotR in the media related tales?

I've heard about LotR in the news a lot, ofte just trying to explain how it coulndt be real(which it is), and the Hobbit thing etc. But it gets publicity, more often that nother fantasy movies etc. and i think its ok, its still getting publicity, even though the books are over 50 yrs old, adn the movies are several years old..

most lotr refernces i come across seem to be someone taking the mick. like there's one episode of room 101 where the comedienne linda smith (sp???) claimed that lotr is only for engineering students called dave, which really annoyed me. lotr is for everyone!
