Tough choice...
I like "The Hobbit" because of the witty way Tolkien described Bilbo's journey. The book was fun and exciting at the same time.
On the other hand I like "The Children of Hurin" because of the tragic story of Turin and his family. Besides it is a story about the first age of Middle-earth - that's why it was pretty interesting to me.
So I guess I'll say both at the end.

Vana cos Ninnea reminds me too much of Odysseus...he always cried and by the end of the epic i wanted to stab him.
