Hmm it's been a year since I posted last. Well, I've been thinkingabout it and I really want to name my child something Lotr-ish but at the same time something that doesn't sound like the poor kid would be bullied to death... any ideas? :-)

Lol I've just read through this thread, the idea of naming a child Treebeard or Ghan-Buri-Ghan is way too hilarious!!! Middle names is a much more sophisticated idea:)

Ea: what about Samwise, it can always (obviously) be shortened to Sam, and of all the Sams I know none ever go by Samuel so the long version doesn't matter so much. Merry I think is also a fairly uncommon girls name, I had a history/geography teacher who called her daughter Merry (her full name was Merry Marmite Mistrano though....). I think Nordic sounding names like Freya always sound quite lotry too :)

Marmite Mistrano??? Sounds like .. something Italian... you can eat!! lol :P

Samwise is too boring IMO and Sam never was a favorite of mine. :)
I like the Nordic names too. Freya is the Norse goddess of love - and it's a pretty name. I like LotR names like Tinuviel, Arasinya and Arianna (non-canon).

your own AU name, perhaps?
it´s meaning would be quite fitting for a child, don´t you think?
I can understand the apprehension in naming a child
with a LotR name, it has to be subtle, but meaningful.
and it takes two, to make such an important decision. :wary:
Good Luck :bye2:

^I like Eä or Ea but it's too short... it might work as a middle name and yes it's subtle. Whenever I see Ea around I'm like "Oh, that's me" until I realise it's.. well, not me! :P

What reminded me of the thread is that one of my friends changed her name.. her real name.. to something completely different meaning she needed a new passport and social security card and whatnot.. But it's pretty cool anyway even though she didn't get a LotR name! :)

Mmm... Freya is a good strong LOTR-sounding nordic name. (Hence my AU name, lol).

My little brother's name is shortened to Sam sometimes... and people sometimes call him Samwise because they think that's what his real name is. It isn't but it would be cool if it was.

I saw in Facebook a woman who liked Liv's pictures and her name was Liv. Insanely jealous ...

Galadriel's a pretty name  Imagine giving your child the middle name of "Sauron".. or "Saruman".. or "Treebeard".

That child would be either crazy or wooden lol.

I would name my daughter Galadriel, perhaps. I know if a girl whose middle name is Eowyn, and a girl whose name is Arwen.

My friend met a girl at a track thing whose first name was Galadriel. She doesn't use it though, she goes by Blaze instead.

Totally old post, but I wouldn't call it common. I've never in my life met or heard about anyone called Arwen. There are 68 people in Sweden with Arwen as their first name. That's not really common, to be honest.

What??????? If my name was Galadriel i would shout it from rooftops!
I like the name Leah...it sounds slightly LotRish to me :) also i wouldn't have a problem naming a daughter Elenia or Elrenia...i mean, its close enough to Elena :)
But thats a long way off for me :p i change names that i like wayyy to often!
