Marylyn stared at him thoughtfully. "It is his child; his daughter. That's why he worries so much. That is why he obeys the rules." Marylyn urged her horse forward slightly. "Do you not fear that he will kill you and your daughter regardless of whether you turn up alone or not? Hear me out, please? You would not know we were here. He would not know we were here. We would simply be there, just in case."

"I know something of staying hidden, as does Nessa." Tawry said.

"Even though you're no good at it," Nessa teased. "But, seriously, let us be there."

"No! I will not risk or let you risk my daughter's life! She's all I have left of her mother. And I know the way he plays his games. He is possessed, and the spirits will let him know you are there!!" he was shaking now. Why didn't they get it? Were they so willing to get his daughter killed? "I said no, and I mean it. Get out of here!"

"He wouldn't know if it was a snap decision. What if we just happened to be there? Passing by? Please, I understand what you are feeling and your desire to protect your daughter. We want no harm to come to her. You need our help. You cannot do it without us."

"I said no!" his eyes crackled dangerously and spoke of some great power hidden within him. "I will not allow it!"

Marylyn drew her horse back, grimacing deeply. "We only wish to help..." She glanced around at her companions, unsure of what line of persuasion to follow next. Or we're they to give up?

"Ok then." Nessa said. "Enough of this. Tawry, send for the EYES." Nessa quickly jumped forward, tying the man to a tree, holding a sword to his throat. "Now, tell us your name, and maybe, just maybe, we'll let you go."

Tawry pulled a small mirror out of his pocket. The sunlight glinted off of the reflective surface. Flashing the light several times, he said, "They are coming."

Marylyn raised her brows slightly. The EYES? She wondered to herself as she began to look around. Whatever they were, she had not heard of them and was keen to know.

Nessa smiled as another man stepped through the underbrush, wearing a green cloak. "Hello, Tawry, Nessa."

"Hello Oldin. How long until the others get here?" Tawry asked.

"About the rest of the day," Oldin said.

"Then we shall wait. Is that alright with you?" He asked the group.

Marylyn nodded, looking to the newcomer. His garb gave nothing away about his career. In fact in ordinary life he would blend in almost like everyone else. Who were these EYES? What was their purpose? Why had she not heard of them?

"I have had enough of this!" Cale shouted. He broke away and disarmed the woman, snapping the blade in half as though it were a twig. "I said. He would kill. My daughter. If you followed me, or detain me any longer. Leave me be and take your own paths!" he angrily whirled and began walking away.

Oldin and Tawry grabbed the man's arms and held him back.

"We don't wish to hurt you, but any more attempts to run away, and we just might."

"Let me bloody go!" he shouted, tearing away from them easily. "I swear. If he kills my daughter because you have kept me here I will find you, and I will kill you." he hissed, his eyes sidedly turning a dark red.
