Turwaithion had pulled out a map a while ago, studying thier distance from the eastern border of Dimbar while he rode. He raised an eyebrow as he realised that, at a quick pace, they could meet the treeline by sundown "Come he said, grinning as Fyrn accellerated "We can make it to Dimbar this night!"

Deawen didn't protest the faster speed, even though her shoulder was becoming a nusiance. THe thought of safety and good company lifted her fallen spirits.

(Note: Just to let you all know, I am having internet troubles and it's hard for me to get online I will try to get on as much as possible. I also have a Mare ready to foal so that consumes most of my time but I will try and try to get online aas much as possible.)

(Ah. Well, good luck with the mare, and hope the internet stabilizes)

The restof the day passed uneventfully. At dusk, they reached the treeline, and safety. Turwaithion dismounted, and blew onced on his horn. A pair of elves materialised from the trees, grinning.

"Durion! Glandur!" Turwaithion said, laughing as the pair shook hands with the him "I thought you were dead!"

"We're hard to kill, Lord." Glandur said, laughing "Who are your friends?"

"Ah. This is Lady Anira Manwameldiel of Greenwood the Great, Arwen Goldleaf, of the Border Guard, Turwaithiel, also of Greenwood, and Deawen, of the Edain." Turwaithion said, gesturing to each of his companions in turn.

"Ladies, these two are Glandur and Durion, formerly of my father's guard." he said, turning back to his companions

"Is the defence going well?" he asked

"Aye, Durion replied "This area is safe. Come. Beleg will enjoy seeing you again, pen tithen"

Turwaithion chuckled at the name "Little one indeed. Yet, I thought that I was the taller of the two?" he asked the far shorter elf, who was grinning as he turned

"We'l discuss such things later. Come. We'll get to camp. You all look tired and hungry" Glandur called over his shoulder, as the four elves and solitary woman followed him.

Arwen looked around as she followed Turwaithion and the two elves to their camp. She rubbed her hands together to ward off the cold.

Deawen watched the elves with intent interest. Turwaithion knew these elves! "pen tithen" Deawen repeated with a soft playful snort, as sudden as a summer rainshower she started to giggle.
The mention of food caught Deawen's attention, "That sounds lovely!" but a good sleep sounded even better.

Anira dismounted after they were introduced and she glanced around their surroundings, glad to be among friends. It had been a hard ride and though she was exhausted, she knew that her steed must be far more drained than she. As she followed the group into camp, with Vehiron walking at her side she could not help but smile at the excitement in Deawen's voice, glad to see that the woman's spirits seemed to have risen.

Turwaithion steped into a small clearing, where Durion and Glandur giuded him to a patch of thick brush. Before the elf realized it, he was below ground in a sort of cave. Durion left wordlessly, then returned with Turwaithion's companions. "Here it is" Glandur said, starting a fire deftly while he spoke "You've come in ill times, Lord Turwaithion. We were a band of 12 once, but we are the only remaning troops. We don't have much of a contact with Menegroth to request reinforcements with. We're considering abandoning this sector" he said

Turwaithion nodded as he dug a few packets of lembas bread out from his saddle bag, taken from Fyrn's saddle after the horses had been picketed at the mouth of the retreat. "Aye. We're headed north to Hithlum. King Fingolfin's ordered us to assist the war in any way we can, but to report to Andband first. He'll give us our orders there."

Durion shook his head "We won't be able to go with you, Lord. We will return to Menegroth. I haven't seen my granddaughter in nearly a decade. I'm getting too old for this" he said with a rueful grin

Turwaithion let out a chuckle "Too old, Durion? You're the youngest of youe brothers, for the Valar's sake. Yu were barely 2, 000 when you left with Feanor."

"Yes, but I'm still 2, 000 years your senior. Now" he said, gesturing to Glandur and the small pot he was holding over the fire "let's eat. You must be famished."

Arwen sat down and gave a small smile.
"Hannon le," she said, "you're very kind to provide us with shelter and food. It was a long journey, we even had an encounter with a werewolf."

"Gaurhoth in Doriath?" Durion said incredulously "times are ill indeed. Beleg and Mablung should be alerted"

Turwaithion nodded "An entire pack. None now live, but I say that there are still some who inhabit the trees. Be careful on your way back" he cautioned as Formener brought enough bowls of soup for everyone

"Eat." the elf urged "You'll not make good time to Hitlum while hungry."

Turwaithion took the bowl with a nod of thanks "When do you plan to leave?" he asked

"Tomorrow." Glandur supplied "You should all rest. We shall keep watch. You look as if you haven't slept in days"

Turwaithion shrugged, swallowing a spoonful of the soup. "We only had a brief respite in the morning. Oh, that reminds me. There is a group of Edain within the forest. The son of thier Lord accosted Deawen. They dislike Elves, apparently."

Glandur nodded, his brows knitted in thought "We'll alert King Greymantle when we make it back to Menegroth" he assured the younger elf.

Turwaithion nodded, and set his empty bowl aside. From there, he pulled out Elenrist and began to polish the blade.

Arwen sat quietly as the elves handed out food. She had no idea what she was doing here. She felt entirely too small, too unimportant to be taking part in such a journey. She folded her arms, her gaze moving to her feet. Arwen had spent nearly half of her long life as a guard of the forest, and now she was beginning to feel her part in this tale was a bit futile. She accepted a bowl of soup that one of the elves offered gladly and ate a little.

After Durion and Glandur left the hiding place, Turwaithion leaned against one of the earth walls, running a concerned eye over Arwen. She looked rather distraught. "Arwen" he said quietly "Are you alright?"

"Fine." Arwen laid down her bowl, looking up at Turwaithion. She sighed. "Trouble yourself not. I am only thinking."

Turwaithion shook his head. He'd seen that look in the eyes of many young elves, in the grip of young adulthood. He himself had had his fair share of second guessing himself. But, he had a job to do now. "Arwen, we'll make this journey. We'll make certain that at the end, Morgoth lies at the feet of the Valar. And we will make our sacrifices worth remembrances. We will not remain insignificant fighters. Trust me in this." he said carefully, squeezing the young elf's shoulder.

Arwen nodded quietly. "I know it." She picked up her soup bowl again. She heeded Turwaithion's words more than she let on, and resolved not to feel so easily defeated from then on. Morgoth would fall.

Anira had gratefully accepted the soup that was given to her, and drank quietly as she watched Turwaithion and Arwen talk quietly. She could understand the younger elf's feelings-for she had felt that way once. Yet, many battles had long since hardened her that at times she could no longer recognize the maiden that she once was. True, she never had an easy life under her father, but she was not at least she was not as cold as she was now. Her life was now dedicated to war-and deep within her heart she knew that it would remain that way until the day that death took her.

Deawen was either oblivious to the talk around her or she only chose to hear what was needed. She ate heartily with many thanks between small sips. She had nearly forgotten two things when they arrived. Her mind as flittering as a butterfly's wings almost forgot the encounter with the Edain, upon being mentioned she blushed and put her bowl of soup down. She leaned back and the cool earthen wall reminded Deawen of her shoulder.
" Please excuse me." she said sitting up and rummaging through a saddle bag pulling out a roll of bandages then leaving the camp. She quickly found a stream nearby before stooping to the water she scanned her side of the creek and the other side of the creek making sure she was alone. Once satisfied she begin to examine her wound. It was trying to heal but it was still bleeding from being reopened. It stung unmercifuly as she cleansed it, enough to make her eyes water.
