(I'll play Eowyn!) Areanne: A small Wood elf girl who was sent by King Thranduil to inform the Rohan King of the orcs sighted passing by the borders of Mirkwood. She wears a black cloak and has dark hair and eyes, and has the other dark green elf attire underneath. |

(Oh, okay.  )Areanne stumbled in the open plains of Rohan. She saw the great kingdom walls in the distance. Her feet were sore and she was out of breath; she slowed to a walk until her head stopped buzzing. Then she pressed on, running for the kingdom of the Rohirrim. |

((Here we go! A post, finally!  I'm also adding in an OC. His name is Merefara, and I'll get a short bio for him up soon.))Theodred stood uneasily beside his father’s empty chair, looking out over the crowd that had assembled in the Golden Hall. A rider had arrived during the night, bearing what he claimed was an urgent message for the king. “Let it wait until morning,” he had been told. It was by some ill chance that when the morning finally came, Theoden had felt too weak to rise. No doubt it was only some passing mood, though the men joked (albeit uneasily) that the king had grown weary of his new counsellor—Wormtongue, as they’d started to call him. “Come,” Theodred told the rider. It was a young man, clearly exhausted after riding all the way from the Isen. “Tell us your account.” ----- Merefara let out a nervous cough before he began speaking. He had ridden all day and night to reach the king’s ears, only to be told he would have to tell the king’s son instead. It felt as if he was already being discredited for his story, although he had not uttered a word of it to anyone. “My lord,” he began, worrying that it was the wrong address. He had no experience with kings or nobles—only farmers and soldiers. “I have come all the way from the River Isen.” Yes, they knew that already. “I was among a group of scouts; our patrol took us north, towards Isengard.” This next part would have to be phrased carefully, or else he’d only be laughed at. “A small company of orcs from Mordor was crossing the plains, headed for Isengard itself. My lord, they were welcomed inside, while we were turned away when we reached the gates in our pursuit.” |

Areanne gasped heavily as she reached the gates of Rohan. "Halt!" said the guards. "Who are you, and what business do you have in the realm of King Theoden?" Areanne caught her breath, managing to choke out, "I am Areanne, messenger of- of King Thranduil. I come bearing a m-message for King Theoden, of utmost impor-importance." |

(I'm very sorry for not posting!  It kind of slipped my mind after my holiday, but now I've got it again.)Éomer looked at his cousin, standing next to his fathers throne with a worried look on his face. His thoughts wandered off to the king's counsellor, who he'd disliked from the first moment he stepped foot into Meduseld. After his arrival, King Theoden's health had only deteriorated, leading to his absence during this important meeting. Suddenly he was brought back to the present, when he heard the rider speak of Mordor orcs being welcomed into Isengard. His uneasy feeling grew. Maybe the rumors about the borders of Fangorn being turned to ashes also proved to be true. It was at least clear that something was at hand in Isengard, and not for the good of Rohan. |

Areanne was guided into the halls, brought before the court. She stood by to the side as the first rider relayed his tale. Areanne shifted uncomfortably, wondering what fate would befall her at her additional bad news. King Theoden wasn't himself, she'd heard-- and his new counsellor was no good. Her dark eyes swept all the attendors. |

"Those are serious accusations you make," Theodred said to the messenger. He was young, he noticed. Young, inexperienced, and what would he have to gain from lying about such a thing? It was a long way to ride to spin a tale. If what he said was true, however, then they would need to send a messenger at once. As the rider had been talking, however, another guest had come through the doors of the Golden Hall. Theodred briefly turned his attention to them, noticing it was a woman--and upon further inspection, he realized it was an elf. It was a rare thing to be seen here, and that could hardly mean good news. "My lady," he called, addressing her. "I fear it would be rude to leave you waiting." - - - - - Merefara wondered how his words must have sounded to the king's son. It wasn't news he wanted to bear, but he worried that if they turned a blind eye, there could be grave consequences. It concerned him to hear Theodred call forth the elven messenger, but he doubted this conversation was over just yet. Maybe the elf knew something about Isengard and its wizard--elves were supposed to know about these important things, weren't they? |

Areanne bowed to him, the elf-girl trying to remember all Thranduil had told her of addressing the kings of Men. "My Lord Theodred, I am Areanne, a messenger of Thranduil. I came bearing fell news, but it seems that this young rider has already told you th emost of it. Except... Orcs have been sighted on the sothern border of Mirkwood, near the Brown Lands. Not only this, but they have attacked us quite a few times in small patrols. Small, taht is, for their colonies. King Thranduil is overwhelmed. Forgive my saying so, but it seems we cannot aid you until the forces are put back. My sincerest apologies, My Lord." She bowed again, nervously awaiting his reaction. What would happen if Theodred didn't believe they were too overwhelmed to help? |
