Evelyn sighed as her mother called her inside. "Sorry..." she said, "It's getting late...I have to go." She looked up - the sun was setting. "See you later!" she said, waving and going inside.

Lucy rubbed her eyes then sat up in her bed she looked around the room. Everything seemed safe...for now...she sighed then closed her eyes slowly pulling the blanket back on. She fell back into a deep smooth rest.

Evelyn lay in bed that night, never fully falling asleep. She suddenly heard a plane's engine go overhead. Probably a patrol plane....then another....then another....what was going on? She got up and went to the window, hearing soft <i>boom</i>s as she went. She opened the curtain and looked out...

About a hundred planes, it seemed, were zooming overhead, dropping bombs on the whole city. "Mother!" she screamed. She turned and ran out of her room.

Elizabeth, by now, was trying to wake her younger brother, and he was refusing to. "Thomas, wake up!" she cried, then looked up as she heard another explosion.

Evelyn woke her mother, then hurried outside to go to the cellar. When she stepped outside, she heard a sound overhead, and looked up to see a low-altitude bomber - latch open. She saw the German soldier move for a second before the latch closed again. She hurried and dove into the cellar.

Elizabeth's brother finally woke, and she dragged him out of the room, and pushed him toward the steps. She looked up, before running down the steps, and seeing her mother run out to their cellar.

She headed toward the cellar, then realized that Thomas wasn't with her. "Thomas!" she cried out, realizing he was still inside.

Evelyn closed the doors behind her mother, then crouched in the back of the cellar. She remembered what Lizzie had said....'One more bombing raid...' She sighed. Looked like they were probably going sometime soon...both of them.

"Lizzie,get inside!" her mother cried. "Thomas!" she cried out. Her mother came out and grabbed her arm, and pulled her inside the cellar just as a bomb landed on their house. The doors slammed shut, and Elizabeth cried out, "No!"

Edmund watched the skys as plains flew overhead, and the sirens went off.

Peter jumped out of bed and ran to get his sisters. Lucy ran straight into him. He grabbed her hand. "Quick, Lucy!"

Lucy tears falling, runs to the shelter seeing her mum there and Susan. Looks back to see Edmund still inside.
