It's not so bad. At least the names are pretty much the same. I can see where it would be kind of annoying though. It's kind of better to have them exactly as Tolkien wrote them. What you said in the other thread though, it must make learning Elvish a heck of a lot easier.

Yep, I think so. It's like, the ppl who read LotR in english don't know it, so why should it be changed in the finnish version. I'm thinking of reading the finnish version, but if the elvish would've been changed, then I wouldn't.

My thoughts exactly. I just wondered. That would have been weird/crazy if they had changed it. Although, since it's based on Finnish, I guess it would make it a whole lot easier for you lot to understand.

That can get pretty confusing sometimes. It takes some re-reading before getting to know all the names very well. Most of them, the main ones are eays enough to remember, but once we get into all the Amons (Amon Sul, Amon Hen? Which is which? I think Amon Hen is Weathertop.), I get a little lost. And of course, many people and places have more than one name, so it's imprtant to remember which ones are the same person and which ones are different. It gets a lot easier after you've re-read them. Still I understand exctly what you're saying about the confusion.

Lol, TT - Amon Sul is Weathertop - Amon Hen is the one where Boromir dies.

I might be a little wierd, but I have a very easy time associating names with places/people, so I didn't have to do any re-reading to understand them.

it was a little hard as it got boring after a bit. im not a big fan of descriptions... so the first time i read it ... i just wanted to skip over to the faster parts. but yea, a lot of my friends couldnt finish the whole book since it got confusing for them.

Many places and names have more than one name, yes, and that confuses me still.

A lor of people say it was too descriptive, but I'm the kind of reader who likes description. I like to be able to vividly pisture the story and the world it takes place in so that I can create it in my head. So, I rather liked the descriptive bits actually. Tolkien made hi interesting. Enough to picture Middle Earth, but not too much so that we were sick of it. One of the reasons I found the chapter about Helm's Deep hard in the Two toweres was ebcause I couldn't picture it. I can't picture Helm's Deep for some reason, and it's really frustrating. I like description though, which was pretty much the point of this post if you dig through all the useless stuff.

I think it was a touch hard, but watching the movie first helped.

I can't picture the war of Helm's Deep and the war of the Ring. I just can't. There's not much description of the action of the fighters, what are they doing, and so on. In the movies, the wars are major things and everyone likes to see Leggy sliding on a shield down some stairs and slay some uruk hai (:D)! But if I remember right, the book doesn't say much about the wars. Is it so?

There was a whole chapter devoted to Helm's Deep, but I had trouble understanding it too. Probably because I don't really understand a lot of battle terminology among other things. I just couldn't picture it. I still can't really, when I'm reading it. That's where the movies are sort of helpful. And you're right, I love seeing Legolas slide down the steps on the shield shooting the Uruks. And I'm not even a Legolas fangirl. That's just a seriously cool stunt.

I didn't find it hard to read at all, in fact, I found it hard to stop. I remember the first time I read FOTR was when I was 12, and my mom found me on my bed, reading FOTR at 2am...boy she got mad. Gave me the evil mom stare. *shivers*
