Does this mean that I am weird? I like him and I am male. (well basically there is nothing that Prof. Tolkien wrote that I do not like.) :)

Now you know a third! Liking Tom Bombadil is a natural thing to me... he just is a very interesting figure in the books. Always fun to read the part about TB. He just makes me happy in a funny way...

Every time that I start reading FotR I just can wait for the chapters of Tom. Maybe beacause evry time I think I will find something that will make clearer who Tom is. :)

I like Tom Bombadil. I just think he is a little too "happy-go-lucky"

The chapter "Tom Bombadil" has been the cause for many of my friends to give up reading LOTR even before they got really into the meat of it. Basically, it is very boring and hard to get through for me, although others may like it.

Yes, that's exactly it. I am just so curious to find out what he really is, I just want to read every little detail. :)

But the sad is that you read every little detail that exists and then you still find out that you know very few things for him.

Very true. But all the same, I just have that feeling I have to try, even though it really is quite impossible. :)

I find Tom Bombadil very interesting. We know he is a Maia, but he is still quite different from all the ones we know. Up to know, he is the only character to whom the Ring had no effect on. In the chapter where Frodo shows the Ring to him, he seems to understand the danger of it, but also to feel a little unconcerned by it too.
There is a part in this chapter where he takes the Ring and puts it near his eye. When I read this, -and this is only an impression- it seemed to me as if he was sort of mocking Sauron, his Eye and everything...
But why has the Ring no effect on him? In the book, he slips it on and does not become invisible. I think the Ring is effectless on him because TB has (or seems to have) no fear whatsoever for himself of Sauron or Mordor. He knows it's there and that it had the potential to affect a great deal of people, but that's about it. Also, I noticed that TB seems to have no particular ambition or thurst for power. He his happy with his own land, does not desire anything else and does not want to change ME by war or something. So maybe the Ring has no effect on him, which makes him an even more interesting character.

I like Tom Bombadil though I have some difficulties with him, idk his story and his character are a bit strange I think... but I what I like about him is that he just wants to live in peace and doesn't want glory or so..
