Post subject:  Imagining the actors voices

Has anyone else imagined the actors voices when reading this book? I did and as a result it took six months for me to get them from Bree to Rivendell. I kept falling asleep. Tolkien didn't give Aragorn lines, he gave him flipping speeches!! And when you have viggo Mortensen's slow, monotonous voice (no offence meant to the great man) going on for aboput five minutes at a time, you tend to fall asleep!!

That's interesting. Usually when I read something, and I haven't seen the movie I tend to come up with different voices for the different characters inside my head.

I read all the LotR books before the movies came out, so I was able to make up how the character's voices sounded.

After I saw the movies that completely changed when I read the book again, because this time I heard the actor/actreses voice inside my head instead of the voices I had come up with the first time I'd read it.

Wow, you have a really vivid imagination, if you can imagine Aragorn's speeches by Viggo Mortensen in real time while reading the book! I don't think I could do that even if I tried.

I sort of imagined their voices. When I first saw the film, I was so surprised to hear Pippin with a Scottish accent! More often, I imagine the characters' appearances differently. When I read the book, I try to put the film out of my mind so I can let the characters look like they do in my mind.

I read the book after the movie so I usually imagine the characters as the characters from the movie because as I have watched LOTR too many time to count, it's hard not to.

I saw the movies first so I've got the character's voices and picture in my head when I read the books. In a way it's nice that not everything was put in the movie. You can still imagine Tom Bombadil, Glorfindel etc.

I also read the books after seeing the movies, so I saw the characters from the movies in my head. but I didn't hear their voices, when I was reading it again... Only with some of the lines...

I read FotR and TTT before I saw the movies, but I was only half way through when I saw RotK. For me I just picture (not really picture, but hear :-D ) their voices in my head.

When I went and saw the movies I kept thinking, "Hey! Aragorn doesn't sound like that...in my head...:p" It was kind of ridiculous...Oh well...But when I reread Lord of the Rings, it was interesting, Aragorn had Viggo/how I imagined his voice to be mix...:P

It's funny because usually I'm complaining about what they didn't put it. But I really shouldn't. I should listen to my own advice sometimes, eh?

I dunno about you all, but Ian Mckellen is THE Gandalf for me, it's exactly how I pictured him and heard him.
