I totally believe that. A movie can never be better from something that Prof. Tolkien wrote.

The Two Towers movie did what it had to in order to still "rhyme". When one translates a poem from one language to another, one must completely alter it so that it will still rhyme. If this is not done, the result will be a very nice piece of prose but not the flowing, rhyming original masterpiece. When one translates a story from the language of books to the language of movies, one must also make alterations so that the story will still "rhyme".

I also think that no movie can be as good as Tolkien's writings and you can't put all his ideas into a film properly. I think the movie (especially TTT) is different from the book in a way, but I think that they translated the topic very well...

I think they're both totally different. First, they cut out a lot to much parts from the book. And what's with Aragorn falling off the cliff??? I didn't get that.
Also I didn't like what they did with Faramir: he did not want the Ring!!

yes of course, I also didn't like these scenes, but I mean what they translated were the really important topics, ya know the heart of the books, I think the athmosphere of the books were translated quite well..

Yes, I agree with this. When we watch the movies we get the general feeling of the book. Some things, PJ could have kept like it was in the book though. Like I still don't understand the thing with Faramir... (but I'm *a little* purist and I get annoyed easily with these kind of things... )

I was also very annoyed by these things... I can't understand why PJ made him like that...

Yeah, if Faramir wants the Ring and all, he becomes sort of a copy of Boromir when we know that in fact, Boromir and Faramir were both very different.

*agrees* he was so like Boromir and when I read the books (I read them after watching TTT) I was very surprised to see Faramir being so different from Boromir

I voted for some similarities and some differences. There are parts they seemed to have completely changed around, but it's hard to make movies exactly like the books. I think they did a brilliant job matching the book and the movie.

Well, it's not completely like the book, and it doesn't follow it as well as the FotR and RotK did, mostly because they had to change it things around to keep things moving and to keep those with short attention spans interested. The primary difference was they put a lot into Helm's Deep, and added in Westfold, and took Shelob and Boromir's death out. Well, and also Faramir, so I guess they didn't really follow it much. But the essential plot was more-or-less the same.

*agrees* I think that this is VERY important. You can argue about these things like Faramir or Haldir's death (I didn't like that as well) but I think what they did very well was to get the "spirit" of the books and the most important themes and that's what they translated very well I think. I think there were some unnecessary changes, but the topic was translated very well
