I thought they were great in different ways, the book really develops Frodo and Sam's friendship which was one of my favorite themes, and the film was my favorite of all three (films). For some reason I enjoyed it more when I saw in the theater than the others.

I think they were equally good but in different ways. I mean yes the movie is a lot different from the book, there are a lot of changes in there, some are for the better some are for the worse. But the movie version is better in terms of pacing and continuity, and well the obvious fact that the visual stuff is just STUNNING! The book is awesome in its own way just because it's the original book.

For me it's really hard to compare the books with the movies because I look at them as two different kinds of stories: there's the original story Tolkien created and then there's Peter Jackson's interpretation of Tolkien's creation which is a completely different story telling. I also feel they compliment each other; Tolkien provides the original story the way it was meant to be told, but Peter has added a 3D world to the story with images and sounds, something Tolkien could never do. So if you take Tolkien's story and add Peter's visual element you have the perfect Middle-Earth :)

I was really disappointed with the theatrical version. I really really was - I would go as far to say that I didn't like it, but that would be really stupid, because I did. It just wasn't what I was expecting.

TTT is my favourite of the books. This may have had something to do with it. And I love the EE - the extra scenes really added something.
So I'd say that I think the book is, ultimately, better.

I liked the book better...but I do really like the extended Two Towers. I can never really decide because I love the films too...but over-all, the book is better.

I could go all tolkienesk and say that since the TT book is the real thing, nothing can be as exact as that. But I won't. Or at least I'll try. :-D

I liked the book better, and I usually do, because i can visualixe t the way I think it happened. That's somthing that I movie just can't do. It cannot fit everyones idea. The way the battle is decribed is stunning

But on the other hand, the movie was beautifully done, and the graphics were amazing. The actors fit the roles. But the movie had flaws in it (ex. Elves at Helm's deep, Eomer aiding helm's deep), and that scored against it. Had I seen the movie befor I read the book, I might think differently, but as it stands, i think the book out scores the movie by a long shot!

I definitely liked the book more, because it entailed all my favorite parts (from Boromir's death to my favorite chapter, The Choices of Master Samwise) The Choices of Master Samwise was the greatest part of the book, and Sam's part in finding Frodo was totally downsized in the movie, and it wasn't even in TTT, but in ROTK.

I liked them both equally, but for different reasons.

The movie, even the Extended edition, cannot rival the book. The book is far better. The movie was good, but not that good.

Faramir was destroyed in that movie *shudders* at least the Extended Edition gave a reason for it.....

I agree totaly with Aerandir.

The book has no match. The theatrical version was leaky, thank goodness that the EE patched up some loose ends, but still it leaks. The molesting of Faramirs character was just one of the examples.

From a movie aspect TTT wasnt so bad at all, heck... you cant win them all.
