Post subject:  A bit of an idea......
I saw this idea on another forum website ( a 40k one). There they have whats called a Librarium, where lots of little articles and other bits and bobs that are both canon and composed by members (for example, chapter profiles on the website in question) in one place, and specially appointed members help maintain it etc.

So I was thinking, why couldnt we on A-U try a similar idea? I mean, if we kept a central vault of information on Tolkien's work, and had a corps of members who helped maintain and add to it, then I think it would be a useful addition to the board.

But that my opinion. Feel free to voice an opinion please. :P

I suppose that would be the rough idea. That way, we have an easily accesible bank of Tolkien info on forum that can be "moderated" and kept pure of some of the errors that Wiki sites sometimes end up suffering (not talking about crashes :P we have enough of them as is :P)

I know it sounds crazy and a bit strange, but I do think it would be useful. There are many discussions that go on (Do Balrogs have wings, is Beorn a maiar etc etc) and we don't seemingly record it in one place, where it would be useful for newbies and others studying the books.

If you want me to Kit, Ill send you the addy of the site I got the idea from, and perhaps you could investigate this if you think its not stupid

(and why all caps in your last few words btw? That felt like shouting to me....)

^ I think I can imagine the look on Kit's face (after she's fell off her chair) when she posted that last bit. I think incredulous more than shouting was the reason for that.

I'm not sure how it would work, but it sounds like a good idea for me. It might be nice to have something members can work on, and maybe rekindle everyone's love for LOTR.

I really like that idea, too. Especially if it also contains details as you mentioned Bjorn, like the discussion about whether Balrogs have wings or so, because I think this is the point where many people studying the books have problems. Of course general information is also important, but I'd particularly like the idea of detailed information that also refer to discussions on the forum

Yeah, the caps on the last part wasn't to imply shouting----it's a new idea, and I'm not quite sure how it would work, so I was kind of shocked as to that idea in the sense of how a forum works.


And yes, if you could link the site, I'd be happy to take notes on the different things they organize to make up this encyclopedia. I think I have an idea of what you mean (and it does sound interesting), but just to be sure.
