Without those who began the LotR movies, like PJ and Co, I don't feel the Hobbit will be the same...It won't be as NEARLY good as when PJ and CO did the LotR movies

I voted both.
As insane as I think New Line are for even contemplating this projext without PJ, I hope MGM, Saul Zaentz and others can persuade New Line to back down and let PJ do this thing. It's going to make them all more money in the long run.
That being said, wether PJ and co are involved or not. My main concern isn't The Hobbit, but the second movie they plan on doing.

I agree that they would not be the same, but I also feel that I would understand how PJ and Co. feel about it. Maybe it'd be nice to have a new take on Middle Earth too. And if it gets the movie out sooner then that's good too!

I voted without PJ and Co it wouldn't be the same, just because it wouldn't!

the lastest news on CNN.com is that an exec at New Line actually said that PJ will never make another film for them.... I hope MGM gets the upperhand here and pushes for PJ and company...-sighs-

I believe the company that holds the rights for the Hobbit, has to have started making it by the end of this year or early next year. If not, the rights will go to someone else who has stated that he definitely wants PJ to direct the Hobbit. He also says there is very little chance the Hobbit will be ready to start making before this time, so I'm pretty confident that PJ will make the Hobbit but just not with New Line.

Ooooh! I so hope you're right Johnny's Fan! It would serve New Line right as well!

Yes, I hope so too. The script has not even been started yet, so unless they just hash it altogether as quickly as possible (which threatens the quality of the film) , so they can say they have started, it will not be happening in the near future. And New Line probably won't be going ahead with it just yet, as this lawsuit seems to be taking a new twist (i.e personal slanging match).
If for one, won't mind if I have to wait 10 yeard for the Hobbit to be made - as long as PJ and his team make it, I'll wait forever.

No PJ or Fran? ARE THEY INSANE?!
LoL yeah that's what I voted!
The people at New Line simply cannot be thinking straight. The only way to do The Hobbit any justice is to have PJ direct it (and have the whole LotR crew back). PJ dedicated more than 8 years of his life to making LotR - I find it hard to believe there are many directors out there who would. The Hobbit needs to have the exact same voice as LotR and the only way to do that is to bring the exact same director in. Please don't let what happened to the Harry Potter films happen to the Hobbit!

NOOOOO!!! Who are they gonna get? I think they should let Pj direct...he did a great job on LotR, and I think he'd do just as good on the Hobbit. I hope the director they get to replace him does just as good if not better. If not I vill be directing my OWN hobbit movie.

No PJ? That's nonsense! I'm so glad they resolved their differences...it's expected in '09.

Okay, I went digging in search of some definite answers, and I found this at Wikipedia:
"On December 18, 2007, it was announced that Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema had reached agreement to make two prequels, one based on The Hobbit which will be released in 2011 and 2012. Jackson will serve as executive producer. Guillermo del Toro is in final negotiations to direct."
Apparently a New Line exec made some harsh comments that didn't help things, but he seems to have atoned for them, which in turn sweetened PJ's mood towards doing the Hobbit.
I guess we can all breathe a tenative sigh of relief, then. Let's just hope that PJ and New Line can keep up their present good relations.
