Why? Well, none of the members are necessarily un-friendly. But really... I've been here for nearly three months, and I still kind of feel like an outcast. A lot of the time I feel very lonely. I only have one person who's been willing to PM me for any amount of time. The others have PMed me for a bit and then stopped without warning. Also, sometimes I really feel bad, because I'll post something and no one pays any attention... though if someone else posts something similar, they get lots of comments.
Basically, A-U has confirmed my view that I'm going to be a hated reject wherever I go.... and I know I sound really negative, but I'm trying to be truthful.
I know you posted this about a year ago, and you might not still feel the same way, but I'd like to say for people's general information, that people don't always post everything they say. They could be looking at your post and thinking "Wow, that's really thoughtful and deep and I have nothing to add to that," so not post, and although it comes across as if everyone rejects and ignores you, they really mean well in most cases. 
(Again, directed at anyone who feels this way! Because I've often felt in the same position...)
Personally, I'm going with a five. I've found most forums to be really hostile, and if you're new you basically have to deal with the fact that nobody thinks your opinion matters. Which is so stupid, as just because you joined yesterday doesn't mean you were born yesterday!  Anyway, I love how polite everyone is, and how it doesn't really matter what your post count is. Yes, you do come across the ocassional person who is not quite as open, but they are few and far apart. There's also many opportunities to get to know people better and develop a personal relationship with them. Although I personally haven't been forward enough to do this, I like to see the friendships that spring up. And especially after being here for a while, I remember old members that aren't active anymore, mods before they were mods, and I especially love seeing the new members become more and more a part of the forum until you can't even remember a time when they were new. It's very exciting to be part of all that. _________________

I voted 5, but after I did, I thought, well, maybe 4. The people here are very nice, but there are mini-cliques so unless you're outgoing (on the internet, lol), it's going to be hard to ingrain yourself.

Hmmm. I know I've already voted and posted here, but that was nearly two years ago. I wanted to come back and re-post, even if it's an old thread, and even though I can't change my vote.
At the time I last posted I was very immature and somewhat self-seeking (as you can see... Taur quoted my post above). If I could do it again I'd say 5. I have met some absolutely brilliant people here, who are so sweet and friendly and caring. The amount of loving acceptance I have found on this forum has taken me completely by surprise this past year.
Love live the A-Uers.

Wow, I never voted on this.
I would definitely give A-U a five. It is the nicest place I've even been on the internet. I can see Eäryendë's point, that sometimes people can seem cliquey and if you're not internet-ically outgoing then you might feel alone sometimes, but I never feel any sort of meaness from anyone.
