Sorry for my long absence!
Burying one's own child is horrible, for anyone, it seems to be against nature, because children are meant to survive their parents, that's just how it works. I cannot imagine how Theoden must have felt to lose his only child, and that he could not say farewell to Theodred, as Eowyn and Eomer did with sitting at his side.
For Theoden that must have come quite unexpectedly, I'm sure he did not realise what Eowyn was telling him about his son. And when he was 'healed' by Gandalf, he seemed to have a feeling that something was wrong, but couldn't put his finger on it. I so pity him, and anyone who has to go through such a fate.

Welcome back, Erana!
Theoden's life seems to be so tragic. His wife dies I think, his sister and brother-in-law die, and then his son dies. He seems to be such a strong person, coping with all of this. And he does have fighting as an outlet. He can take vengance on his enemies.
I think Eowyn envies that she herself can't take vengance in that way. So she bottles her emotions up so that she seems cold. I think there are a lot of contributions to her demeanor. So much death in the family, for instance. When in reality, she's not some emotionless being. There's actual warmth and love beneath the veneer.
I could carry on talking about Eowyn for ages

^ Absolutely no problem, welcome back to the club!
Somehow I believe that all this loss in Theoden's life, his wife, sister and brother in law, made him weaken and open up for Grima's words, otherwise Grima never would have had a chance.
And with Eowyn, I totally agree with you, Goldleaf. Losing her mother and father so early made her keep her feelings to herself and only let very trusted and loved people close to her, actually only Eomer and Theodred at the time before the war of the ring.

Sometimes I wonder about Theodred, and what kind of relationship he and Eowyn had. They must have been good friends; in the scene when he's wounded in bed Eowyn seems so distraught and worried about his wellbeing. The book doesn't tell us much about Theodred. It's like the question about who taught Eowyn to fight.

There are so many questions about Eowyn and her family left open, neither answered by the books, nor by the movies. The story of Eowyn, Eomer and Theodred always interested me very much as well, and so I made up my mind about the three of them.
I believe that Theodred, being quite some years older than Eowyn as far as I remember, about ten if I'm not wrong, was a very important character in Eowyn's and Eomer's life, being their cousin as well as their ally against Grima, but most of all a very dearly beloved friend. I believe he cared for them deeply, as they did as well in return, it is especially seen in the scene in the second movie, when Eomer and Eowyn sit at his side, and fear for his life.

I think you're right. As Eowyn and Eomer sat by Theodred's bed, they all seem so closely linked. It seems very tough on Eowyn having to be the one to inform Theoden of his son's death, especially as the king cannot seem to understand what she is saying.
Especially when Eomer leaves, she seems so alone and lost. That's why I love the scene in the Golden Hall, when Theoden is free of his spell. Eowyn's happiness is so... bright. You know what I mean? It's difficult to explain. After seeing her so unhappy, it's brilliant to see her smiling. By that time in the film I'm usually crying. I'm very sensitive! Anything in LOTR can make me cry.

Yes, this scene when Theoden is finally recovered by Gandalf almost bubbles over with joy and happiness when you only look at uncle and niece. Eowyn seems so cheerfull as you have not seen her at all before this scene, and actually to be honest she doesn't have too many scenes where she is such joyfull, which makes this particular scene even more important.
When you see her broad smile in this moment, you just can't help but smile as well.

*Bumps the awesome, amazing Eowyn club*
Revive!
Okay, so to get the ball rolling for any Eowyn fans out there, what are your favourite Eowyn scenes from the movies, and what is your favourite chapter featuring her?
Some of my many favourite Eowyn scenes are The King of the Golden Hall, The Houses of Healing & The Captain and the White Lady
And my all-time favourite chapter from the books has to be "The Steward and the King", because it tells the tale of my beloved E/F! <3333333333 I went back and read it again the other day as I often do and as always I fell in love with it

Hey, I'd love to join. I love Eowyn, she's my favourite female character from LoTR. So brave and not to mention she's stunning.
