hmmm, no one else heard this? Man, maybe I mis-heard or something. :erm: But I could've sworn on the TVGuide special on Monk they said that the future of the series is in doubt because of Tony.... something like he wasn't sure if he was about ready to be done with it or not. Hopefully I mis-understood.

No, well I don't doubt you at all dear! But I really hope Tony doesn't feel that way. :confuzzled:

I read up on it, and it sounds like a business move, sadly.

Tony said that his contract ends this November 2008, and he is going to take it a year at a time after that, if he decides to return. The reason he won't return would be because there is a lot of competition out there with other shows.

EA, thanks for the faith.

Smeag, so it is really true? Well, at least I feel better because I didn't mis-hear anything, although I'm also sad to hear that I didn't mis-hear. (if that makes sense) Man, that's too bad... :( A lot of competition? Monk is like one of the best shows (in my book) on tv!!!! Well, I hope when it comes down to it Tony decides to at least take it one more year... *keeps fingers crossed*

Most definetly. I don't understand what the competition is speaking of either. Honestly, I can't seem to find another show on TV that is an clean as Monk.

Ah. Thanks for the article!

I suppose it is up to him, and I'm glad that he's at least considering taking it year to year. However long that may be. I'll be heartbroken when its gone, because its one of THE most fabulous shows ever on TV. So unique and imaginative, don't know what this "competition" is. :P

When and if they decide to end it, I hope they end it well! But let us not think of such unhappy thoughts!! :P We must focus on other, more random things! :P

Well...that's depressing. I love Monk! Its such a good show! I hope that Tony realizes that as long as he's in Monk, he doesn't have to worry about competition.

yeah, I know! I sure hope Tony realizes that there are so many people who love him and the show... and I'm happy I'm not the only one wondering who the competition is. I mean, most of the shows on tv now are like "blah". It really is hard to find a good but also clean one.

anyway, on a happier note, which is everyone's favorite? Sharona (ummm, sp?) or Natalie?

Hmm... I used to say Natalie, but, after watching a bit of Sherona I have to say that I really like both of them.

I love Sherona's straightforwardness and her actual heart for Monk.

And, I love Natalie's heart for Monk, desperation to aide, and the fact that she doesn't bend the truth or date all of these weird guys.

WHAAAA!!!????

No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

[beat that Darth]

I know the writers say they don't honestly know how many more series of Monk they can write - it says in my official companion book anyway - and they don't want to take it to series 14 when it really was at it's best at series 8. They want to finish on a high. But I don't like the idea that Tony might want to stop, therefore making the writers come up with a hash ending or something, and actually finishing it before they expected it to.

Now, I'm sad. :-( And just after my brother brought back for me a Monk bobblehead figurine and a magnifying glass keyring from the NBC shop in New York. :-(

awww, don't be too sad, JF! it hasn't happened yet so look at the bright side 'til it does, my friend! And the writers have a point... they don't want to drive into the dirt with dull stories or anything. They want to go out with flying colors! :-D And I have thought of that before... how very creative they are with each episode and how great that is, but how much longer will the ideas be able to come? :( let’s hope for at least a little while longer! Cheer up!

Smeag, I know what you mean… although Sherona is still kinda my favorite in a lot of ways. she was fun to watch and she was firm but in a loving way with Monk. He didn’t walk all over her or take up a lot of her life. :P She kinda helped him get a little more independent or something like that... although Natalie’s sweetness is nice too… eh, I don’t know if I can really choose either. :P

Well, ending the show on a high note is the best way. So lets just hope that WHEN it happens, Tony AND the writers will be happy. Because then we'll know we're in good hands. :P

As for Sharona or Natalie. Well, I am and will always be partial to Sharona. I've always loved her and thought she just fit with Monk. I think part of that has to do with the fact that when we were introduced to Monk, he'd already had a long standing relationship with Sharona. She understood him, and how to deal with him. And vice versa. Straightforwardness is a great way to describe her. She said it like it was, and didn't take no for an answer.
I also really like her because her chemistry with Randy was just awesome. :P Had she stayed, there's no doubt in my mind those two would've hooked up. ;)

Now, when it comes to Natalie, its taken me a while to warm up to her. Partly because I resented the fact that Sharona was replaced (even though I know they had to). :P And I guess for a while it was just awkward. Which might've been the way it was played. Because she didn't really understand Monk like Sharona did. BUT, as time has passed, I think she's definately started to groove with Monk. She's kind of figured out her relationship with him. Which is probably why I'm finally warming up to her. :P

But I do like them both. However, Sharona will just be my favourite. :P

About Natalie and Sharona...I, for one, have always liked Natalie better. I guess it's because I didn't really start watching Monk until Natalie was there, I think I came in at the end of the last season with Sharona, so I never really got to know her character very well.

But Natalie is my favourite, she always seemed alot nicer than Sharona, atleast in my opinion. Not to mention I like her daughter alot more that I did Benji. ;) Don't get me wrong, Sharona is awesome too...but Natalie is my favorite. :) (And plus I'm a hopless Randy/Natalie shipper :teehee:)

Sharona vs Natalie....

Well I think I will always like Sharona better. She was street-wise, sassy and took no messing from nobody (especially the males of the world). I loved the fact she would talk down to Randy and that she would stick up for her boss and that she was game for anything. I felt she really did care for Monk, for all she got frustrated with him and she would literally do anything to keep him happy and well.

I do like Natalie... but she lacks that spunk that I liked to much in Sharona.

I'm currently re-watching series 4, as I got it on DVD for my birthday and I've just seen the episode Mr. Monk Gets Drunk, where he goes to the hotel where he and Trudy spent their honeymoon. A guest arrives and talks to the other guests and Monk. Monk takes a sip of wine, gets plastered and the next morning this guest has disappeared and everyone tries to tell him he imagined the guest.... even Natalie. I just don't think Sharona would have not believed him, she'd have gone and tackled the lying guests and probably hit them or something. :P
