I want to play one of my Dragonlords, but I have a sinking suspicion that the only RP that they will be suitable for will by my own, for which they were thought up.
And then there are other characters that I've thought about, but never really developed.
It's kind of funny--every single plot idea I've ever had has stemmed from developing a character, not the other way around.

Actually, I can agree with you there. I find myself being inspired by the charries that pop into my head all time. Though more often its when I'm browsing DeviantArt and I go to the 'Fantasy' section. Then is when I get overwhellmed with half-finished ideas..
But yeah, I have several characters that I can't play. Mainly becuase they wouldn't fit into practicly ANY rpg, and that the one I mainly speak of is, like LDM's, is royalty. And, unfortunatly, royalty and rpgs rarely mix well.

I can't say this applies to rping as I rarely start new rpgs myself, but this certainly is true for writing. Sometimes a character is so interesting that you want to write something centering around him/her alone and can't make it interesting without a plot.

LOL! I need one too for that matter.
Actually, I DO keep mock journals for some of my RPG characters. It helps me develop them and understand them better. Because more often than not, my characters aren't just characters... they're... almost real... *insert psycho eyes*
Or at least I feel about them and talk about them as if they were real.

I likewise rarely start RPGs, and I don't know if my ideas get started around a character...mostly of them develop so gradually I can't tell where they first started. I think it's the plot I seem to come up with first, though.
I feel really strongly - enough to imagine them as real - about a character very seldom, but when I do I get slightly obsessed. And I always talk about them like they're real, I frequently start analyzing them as if they're not even mine. LDM can attest

I sense an empathizer. The other day I decided I needed to get something out, so I wrote page 5 character philosophy reports for two of my characters. If someone decided to read them one day, it would sound as though the characters developed a life of their own that I can't even dissect.

I've never done that, but I have written quite extensive details on my characters, though no one would understand my handwriting... And, I don't know where they've run off to. Probably hiding in my endless closet clutter. Snickerdoodles. Ah well... I suppose I could redo them. Or not. Mabye just for some of them... I'm ranting again, so sorry.
Lol, this may sound really wierd, but I am absolutely horrible at coming up with plots. Now, coming up with entirely new races/species in a matter of minutes, that is a different story entirely.

I don't get super attatched to my RP characters very often. My story characters, now, that's a different...um, story. lol But anyway.

Like I said, I have yet to make a character that I truly like.

Why is it that every time I post, it's right at the bottom of a page and it gets missed? It drives me insane!
I should try an RP journal sometime. It can be my English assignment, if my mom will go for it

Lol, Meldawen. I went back and read your post. It wasn't completely ignored.
You wrote five character philosophy reports, LDM? ....wow. I love my characters, but not that much. I would just write extensive histories for them, which would lead to more histories, which would lead to more histories, and so on.
Sorry to all whose RPGs I was unable to post in yesterday--I was just warming up in Sharky's End after getting back from German lessons, and then I got snatched away to an impromptu birthday party (not mine, though). I'll try to make it up today.
