Lol, Meldawen. I went back and read your post. It wasn't completely ignored. :P

You wrote five character philosophy reports, LDM? ....wow. I love my characters, but not that much. I would just write extensive histories for them, which would lead to more histories, which would lead to more histories, and so on.

Sorry to all whose RPGs I was unable to post in yesterday--I was just warming up in Sharky's End after getting back from German lessons, and then I got snatched away to an impromptu birthday party (not mine, though). I'll try to make it up today.

Awww, fankoo :)

I don't write much about my characters...other than the occasional short scene that springs to mind and practically writes itself. They develop their own histories, usually, even if I already have the basic idea. It's sort of like a personality. I do like to discuss character philosophy, though :-D

Most of my RPG characters ARE my story characters. :P

Mmm, character philosophy... what exactly do you mean by that Meldy? Sounds interesting.

What she means is why this character was chosen for this plot, why he/she reacts a certain way to different circumstances, how he/she relates to the rper's personality, etc. I don't go in depth with my histories either. Mostly it's a vague personality outline, filling itself in as it goes along. I like to develope histories in sync with personality traits, because every nuance in the way a character turns out has a reason in his/her past.

Aah yes, thank you. My understanding is cleared.

Often my histories aren't all that complicated, and not really extensive either. Most of the time I DO have an extensive history worked out in my head, but I dislike sharing it with others unless the plot calls for it.

Lady Dark Moon: ah! Someone else who finds themselves suddenly bombarded with all sorts of thoughts and deviations concerning their character. Just out of curiosity: how long were these papers?

I think the longest I've ever written on a character would be a complete character profile, which ended up being 11,000 words. I enjoyed writing it though, it was as if it just poured out of me without any sort of filter.

I wrote two of them, five pages each on notebook paper. I have a few other reports on rping relevations in general. I started the journal a week ago and thus far I have about ten pages of rambles and musings. I simply couldn't stop writing - there was so much I wanted to say. It amazed me as I wrote just how little I understood my characters and my attraction to them.

I really don't think an extensive history and personality are needed. It's like when you first meet a person - they don't have their past and personality written on their faces. However most people do have a general mien that's pretty much an overview of their personality, which is why a brief outline would be helpful.

by the way, Aerandir, I feel really sorry for you in Crystal :innocent:

Me too. :annoyed2:

Lol...I can handle it. It's a little....interesting, though. It certainly makes my posts a little more thought-out. Star Crystal is the most difficult to write posts for.

*Giggles and feels immediately guilty*

It must be hard to come in after...when was it...about 55 pages of character development. I feel bad for you :P

Yea me too. :)

As for me, I don't write extensive histories either. I think it is important to HAVE a history seeing as their past makes them what they are. But when I'm developing a character, I prefer to focus on the present. Like their habits and isms and just the little things that make a great character.

define "interesting." *sideways look*

the plot's a bit intricate to explain in full detail right now without having you read the entire 60 pages or so

Ahh, did Aerandir have to jump in an already developed RP too?

PotR roped me in "Pirates!" and I sprung in on like... page 70. Quite discombobulating. Quite interesting too. I'm having a difficult time getting in the spirit of the whole thing, but at least it's about a subject I know well.

Actually, you just came at a bad time. February (as I was telling you last night) is a generally bad time for both me and Pip for RPGs. We both have a lot of our own RL stuff going on (different things, obviously, but both equally busy), and RPing generally ends up pushed to the side. I can't speak for Pip (though I'm pretty sure she's still going to be busy this month), but I'm going to have a lot more time/energy now. Should get easier to get into the RPG.

I'm sure it will. :) I know I've been soooo frustrated with myself for having problems with thinking up posts. Thinking up posts usually isn't a problem for me!

But like I say, I know the subject [PotC] fairly well, so it shouldn't take me much longer to get into the whole "feel" of it.

Time, for me, is not generally an issue. It's what I do with that time. Because lately I feel like doing absolutely nothing except sleeping, emerging to eat and see if I can summon the creative energy to make a passable post, and retreating to bed again. I would really rather not have to expend so much energy on school, piano, various church-related activities which I normally love but now leave me exhausted, and whatnot. Lots of days I don't even want to talk to anyone.

So you can imagine that by the time I get around to RPing, I'm pretty much a spent force and unless I'm posting with one of those lovely characters that writes themself, the quality of my posts diminishes or I just avoid posting altogether.

I started to explain Crystal's plot and realized it is indeed intricate. If you really want to know catch me on MSN sometime, Ellie, and I can attempt it.

Yeah. I jumped in on page 54. Did you read through all of "Pirates!" before joining?

Lol, Melda--I have been having a lot of trouble summoning creative juices recently. It's very difficult thinking up passable posts. Hopefully that will change for next week, since I have no school, which means I will be really haunting this forum. :vampire:
