Well....not that I'm against Sharona either, but you have to remember, when Monk gets Drunk, Natalie was rather new at being his assistant, so she wasn't used to him yet. They mentioned that at the starting, that they had to trust each other. ;)

Well, everything Ms JF said is basically how I feel. Except said much more eloquently. XD Ha ha ha ha!

But EA, you have a point. Which is what I was trying to say about my view of Natalie (I don't think I said it very well XD). That as she wasn't used to Monk, neither was I used to her. And I think as she's grown to understand him and get more used to him over the years, I've started to get used to her.

She'll never be Sharona, but she's getting to be a nice replacement. :P

Well put! They've actually been playing re-runs, and I've gotten more used to Sharona. I think I'm the opposite of you and JF. :teehe: (love your Lassie banner by they way.)

Hmm.. well she'd been with him on 12 cases by that time, and you don't need a degree to know that he rarely makes a mistake or gets anything wrong, so for him to actually create a person and everything... :orly: ... that's not really Monk is it? I don't know, somtimes with certain episodes, I get to thinking "what would Sharona have done"? so that's probably why I can be critical of things Natalie does.

I think the thing with Natalie was the way they introduced her character. I'm not on about the fact that Sharona literally disappeared... but I would have so much preferred it if she was an aquaintance of Sharona who needed a job and was recommended to Monk. I've never really liked the way her character came to be.

I've always liked Natalie better, but like EA, I began watching Monk when she was already in the show, so perhaps I'm just used to her. :P But I like her character a lot better, how she's nice but still assertive and her relationship with Julie is really sweet. Sharona sort of annoyed me because she was unprofessional at times, and the way she dressed sometimes was a bit over the top. :eyeroll: But I liked her a lot too, moslty for that "spunk", as you put it, JF.

I saw that episode that you were talking about, "Mr. Monk Gets Drunk." I like that episode a lot. Like EA pointed out, that was back when Natalie was still new so she was getting used to this guy and trying to understand how she could relate to him and trust him, so I think the episode did a good job of showing that. (Though I do wish she would just believe him. ;) )

@JF: 12 cases? Really? I can't really remember...it seems like shorter than that though. *shrugs* Oooh that is a good idea though, that Sharona would've already known her. I never really though of that. How did Natalie come anyway? I never really new since she was there when I started watching. ;)

@Rin: Yay! Another Natalie fan! :) I totally agree, Sharona did get a little annoying some of the time. I think it was her accent that annoyed me the most. Not to offend anyone from the northern US, but, New York/Jersey accents.....I never really got used to them. ;)

@EA: Hooray! Go Natalie!

You know, I never even noticed her accent that much. I mean, I knew it was New York, but I never thought about it. I don't usually think about accents unless they're from across an ocean. ;)

Actually...the first Monk episode I ever saw, a few years before I got really obsessed ( :teehee: ) was with Sharona...the one where she thinks she's going crazy because she keeps seeing a bloody man everywhere. Anyone remember that?
I think an insane Sharona was a weird introduction to the show, myself. :P

Well I can understand y'all liking Natalie better if she was the first assistant you saw, but I've been watching it from day one, so to have the person you've been watching for over 2 years, suddenly disappear completely out of character, and being replaced by someone not as colourful, you're going to prefer the person you knew from the start. ;)

Yep, Natalie had been with him 12 episodes before that one. And I also really like the New York accent. Natalie can be a bit whiny and high pitched. :P

I have to say though, in the episode Mr. Monk Goes to the Fashion Show, she had one of the best lines. The person who checks Monks shirts (checker "number 8") hasn't been doing their job, and because the quality of the shirts are so poor, Monk has decided that number 8 is in some sort of trouble, and he only has 5 shirts left so he needs to find out what's wrong.

Natalie has the suggestion on how to get more shirts:

"Put two shirts in the washer, shut the door and they might mate".

Yeah, I'm with JF on this one. I too have been watching from day one. (God, I even remember the ads for it before it even aired! XD)

But I just realized something...another reason why I like Sharona so much. She actually called Monk "Adrian." She never called him "Mr. Monk." Which, might not seem like much, there's something in the power of a first name. And as far as I can remember, Natalie hasn't done that. Correct me if I'm wrong! But that really adds something to the character of his assisstant methinks.

Just a random note. XD

XD

We must be able to read each others minds. :P I read that about Sharona and Natalie on Wiki yesterday... it was really a .... "oh yeah!" .... moment, as it had never occured to me before, and I was just thinking now, I forgot to add that in my previous post. Spooky!

I think it's really neat that they both call him different things. I mean, Sharona has been with him for years so she sort of has a "right" to call him by his first name (wasn't she hired by Doctor Kroger not long after Trudy's death?) whereas Natalie... she's way too recent. :P

Of course, we can't forget the other characters. I love the relationship between Stottlemeyer and Randy. They are so funny, and I do feel sorry for Stottlemeyer as he does put up with a lot from both Randy and Monk, and yet he would do anything for them, or if they were hurt or something. And Dr. Kroger! Who can forget the man who keeps Monk all together. I think he needs a well deserved break, as he puts up with quite a lot as well. :P

Yay for the little :P's

 wow, what're you guys talking about? Still Natalie and Sherona? hmmm, and I see JF's mentioned when she started watching it... ummm, I have to say I wasn't there from the start like you, JF and MB, but I think we got into it in the 3rd or so season. my mom's friend liked it and she let us borrow a season. At first it was just like "ah, whatever. I'll see it just for kicks." Well, now my whole family likes it! :-D anyway, I feel like that was totally random, but I really don't know where else to jump in! lol

Oh and Stottlemeyer and Randy!!! :bounce: Randy's my favorite! and poor Stottlemeyer! He does put up with so much! But he's such a good sport about it... although I must say I don't care for either of them in the first few eps. :erm: they're too weird and kinda nasty. But that's before they got in character and settled and all that so it's all good. :-D

Oh my god, JF. That's kind of freaky! :P We're like on the same frequency or something. XD *cue spooky music* Ha ha ha! That is SOOO weird! :P
Its occurred to me before, but I saw a little bit of an episode of Monk this afternoon, and I was getting a little annoyed with Natalie constantly calling him "Mr. Monk." :P Then it kind of dawned on me. XD
Sharona definately has the "right" to call him Adrian, as she's been with him the longest (besides Kroger). But I always figured it was a part of her character. :P

Speaking of the other characters...Dr. Kroger is my hero! :P He's just the coolest! I dunno, I just love him to death. I mean, as you said JF, he keeps our Monk together. :P And puts up with SOO much! Ha ha ha ha! God, in this most recent episode I think, or maybe the one before, Monk got Kroger out of bed in his pjs to come talk to him. :P AWWW! I especially liked him in the "Mr. Monk Joins A Cult" or whatever that episode was called. And it was only Kroger that could bring him "back" so to speak. One of the most touching scenes I've ever seen. Hands down, Kroger is the man in my book. :P
And Randy and Stottlemeyer. Oh god. Awesome to the max! XD I've never felt "sorry" for the captain, only because he's known Monk for SO long. You know? And you just know he loves Randy to death. :P

@ PD - It's hard to believe that I've been an obsessive Monk watcher for over 5 years now. It first aired in 2002, but I think it was actually 2003 when it was first shown over here.

Well that's one of things I love about this show - the characters grow. Randy and Stottlemeyer were visibly annoyed to bein with when higher police officials told them to call in Monk to help with a case, but gradually they came to have a deeper understanding of him and respect. Stottlemeyer has always respected him, but I think in the beginning jealousy got in the way of that. And now.. they're like the three musketeers or something, they'd do anything for each other.

@ Monty - XD I think we must be.

I think you're right there. I don't think Sharona would be happy calling him "Mr. Monk" not after all she had done for him through the years. She'd have probably quit for that reason alone.

Dr. Kroger, haha the poor man. I hope Monk pays him well. In the epsiode Mr. Monk and Mrs. Monk, and Monk thinks he's getting better, he's not straightening cushions or anything, during one of his sessions he tellls Dr. Kroger and he starts crying, and it's Monk whose comforting him. XD I just loved that. And then later on when he kinda breaks down because he thinks Trudy is alive, I loved the way Kroger comforted him, so he really does do his job well but I also like to think he has more of a relationship with Monk, than just being his doctor. The episode I just saw though "Mr. Monk and the Big Reward", where there's a diamond been stolen and the one who finds it gets a million dollars. Dr. Kroger asked Monk what he would do, and he said he'd hire Dr. K full time, buy him a house next to Monk so he could see him everyday... and then Dr. K says in his mind, he would buy an island... Monk could phone him.... there'd be no phones on his island.... Monk could buy a boat.... there's no docks on his island.... my mum wondered if perhaps Dr. Kroger wasn't really a friend to Monk at this point, and whether it was all just because he was being paid, so I explained... Monk's been going to him for years and he must have loads of diffocilt patients so I'm sure if he could, Dr. K would retire right now. Monk's just basically said if he had a million dollars, Dr. K would never get any peace.... that's enough to make you want to buy and island in the middle of nowhere. :P And I don't think he'd have said all that if Monk hadn't come up with the "24 hour retainer" idea. XD

Gah, I can't wait to finally watch series 5. They haven't shown it in the UK, and it actually came out on DVD (they normally show the series and then the DVD comes out), so someone must have slipped up, so it's there, sitting with the other series', waiting for me. :P

I think I feel sorry for Stottlemeyer in as much as, I feel exasperated for him... you know when Randy does his "you might want to sit down for this sir" and it was just to tell the captain it was raining outside? LOL!

JF, wow. :notworthy: time flies, huh? I guess I can't even give a definite time when I started getting into Monk... like I said above, it just kinda happened one day. :P

of course! What kind of good show doesn't have charries that grow? It's great to see the characters go through things and develop because of them. and, yes, I agree with you on all of that about Randy and Stottlemeyer. Oh, I like that! The Three Musketeers! :-D

anyway, have any of you gone on the Monk official site off USA Network's official site? The Monk Shui is so fun! :teehee: it's kind of addicting though... ;) oh, and who else can't wait for the new 2-parter premiering this Friday?! :bounce: Monk gets sent to prison or something like that? And I thought I heard something about Area 51? Or something? It looks so good! squee! I can't wait!

What series are you guys on in the US btw?

I have been to the site, but I wasn't aware of a game or anything, I'll have a look.

SQUEE! I finally get to watch series 5! I'm starting watching my boxset tomorrow, now I finished with series 4. I am so excited. I'm really looking forward to the one where Monk goes undercover as a butler! :D XD

well, we must be in season (or series as you guys in the UK must call it ;)) 6? I'm not quite sure actually. it's 6 or 7 though.

Sweet! Over here the seasons cost so much so we only have the first 3. :erm: the rest we can only watch on USA. hmmm, Monk going undercover as a butler? I must've seen it at some point although I can't remember it! I think the only one that's been torturing me is the one where Monk gets sick. I still haven't seen that one! :headwall: oh and I haven't seen one of the Christmas ones too....
