Phew! It's been a while since I was here. Do you know what I think is weird? 11 year olds that are dating. Having said that some 11 years old get pregnant so what's dating.

Does anyone hear think that children know too much? I mean do you think it wise that children should know the ways of life at 8? Because I don't. I blame the fact that kids know so much about love etc, that so many of 'em do date and end up in trouble.

11 year olds getting pregnant?!?! That's a bit too young to get that state. I don't know about children being taught the ways of life. Definitely not in childhood but these are facts that will have to known sooner or later. Like I said before, though, 18 is a good age to be dating, maybe 17 if you and your girlfriend or boyfriend can handle it.

The amount of teenage mums over here is really bad. One of the worst in Europe. 11 year olds, 12 years olds, 14 year olds. It happens more than you would want it to.

Oh, yeah I know they need to be known, but when I was about 9 I didn't have a clue about anything, yet the things my fellow classmates used to talk about went right over my head. Now, I do know things, and I am in the same state as I was ten years ago, no adoption papers or birth certificates in my cupboards, thank you very much. :teehee:

And you can't say that knowing about these things helps, because it doesn't. Allowing children to know is the reason to many get pregnant. Not knowing never hurt the generations before us.

Agreed. I didn't get to learn about the birds and the bees until I was 9, and I'm okay. Yet I know some people who preach children should not be prejudiced against, age is no matter, graphic sex ed should be taught to all kindergarteners, to keep them from ignorance...it's pretty unsettling.

We have pregnancy problems here in the US, too, though they're usually older when it occurs. 14, 16-ish is what I hear of.

Actaully the youngest mom is supposed to be 5 years old when she got pregnant (or gave birth, I forgot)
I don't believe a word of that. 11 years yes, but 5... no way. Anything before finishied uni of high school at least is too early. My mom had me when she was 25 and even that.. was yeah. Too early. Even though it's nice to have a young mom...
:P

^ I don't believe that either. I think that would be a miracle as the body surely, isn't capable of giving birth until periods start at least.

I don't think 25 is too young. I don't even think 20 is too young, but I do think if you are married and then have a child at 20, there does seem to be a seriousness to it, rather than someone who just got pregnant with someone she's not even married to or in love with.

what's wrong with Disturbed and Slipknot? *glare* :P joking... we all have different musical tastes

I think that, regardless of age but harder when you're younger, being a single mom is one of the worst things that can happen to a girl. You can usually tell single moms by the way they look. I remember a time when I was at a restaurant and I saw a young woman alone... looked no older than 20 perhaps... trying to placate her crying infant son. You could tell by the lines of fatigue on her face and simply... her expression. She lost the privileges of youth before she ever got into college.

And it all ties in with the age... I definitely think people should wait until college at least... or be a bit more cautious in high school.

^People in the USA start dating in fifth grade. Nothing big... just for the heck of dating and some hugging.

Yeah, here in the US, there has got to be a shape up!! 12 year-olds dating?!?! when I was twelve the mere thought of a boyfriend was lightyears away.

I like in the UK SS, same as you.

Yeah, I would actually have thought the US (being bigger) would be just as bad as us in the UK, but from what you've told me, you seem to have more sense.

I have this theory, that it's the fault of the previous generations, that out generation don't seem to care about getting married before getting pregnant etc, and I used to think it was because during WWII, with some many families falling apart, so did the morals.

But I saw a bit of a programme the other night, and I was sorta right. It was the young people during the war years, who changed everything because they "lived for the moment" so all morals went out of the window. And then after that, the next generation..and the next...

Kinds interesting don't you think? :-)

Yeah, morals are really disapearing fast. Most iminent in our programming on TV shows and our movies. It's SO hard to find a movie that does not have a display of of bad behavior and shameless you-know-what. I'm really finding it hard to find a morally sound movie. I don't even bother trying to watch tv shows.

Thanks for bumping this Galad! Continuing on with the discussion at hand...

What is the world coming too?! Dating at age 11 or 12! Pregnancy at age 13! It's ridiculous the things children do now. But really, I can see why they do it. 11-13 year olds have just entered that awkward stage in their lives where things are changing, physically and emotionally. They're not quite sure what to do with themselves really. It's that time when all of a sudden they're noticing the opposite sex, and they're curious.

Some times I think these things [pregnancy, early dating, etc.] could be prevented if parents would just be open with their children. Teach them the basics of life when they're young in a way they'll understand. As they get older you can tell them more, or explain in more detail. Then if they really are curious and you're worried about the things they do, provide them with safety precautions [birth control, condoms, etc.] and explain to them the consequences of their actions later on in life.

Or really, if you just want to nip the rose in the bud don't tell them much at all. Just the basic things they need to know when they hit puberty. Sometimes being naive is better than knowing it all. But you'd think people would have more common sense than that.

My friends all knew about that stuff when they were like 7 years old...

I think I was 9. I only understood half of what my parents told me, though. :P

In the world today, though, I don't think a kid could get far in life without learning something...get what I mean?

Aye, I know precisely what you mean Gwen, and truthfully it makes me a bit sad. I didn't learn about much of those things until they actually began happening to me. Then Mum sat me down and talked to me about it. Not all of it mind you, but enough for me to understand. Why can't all parent's be that way?
