@ smeag - I say we dangle PS in front of it, tell is how inferior it is compared to a $300 programme, laugh and point fingers. Muahuahauaaa.....
Advice -
If you like a certain method don't be afraid to use it again and again, experimenting is good but it's also good to have something you know that works, to fall back on.
Try not to use too many brushes. Brushes should enhance your work not detract.

Advice:
Believe in yourself and in your skills.I know it's pretty hard in the beginning-I know it from experience, but if you keep trying you'll progress very fast

I have more advice also... practice. Every little bit helps.
And.. the bad graphics may be your best learning aides. You have to look at graphic making that you are trying to develop your artistic eye. Even if you make a bad graphic, being able to tell that it is bad is a step in the right direction.
@JF- That is perfect!
Is anyone else amazed... but there seem to be a ton of new contests and such going up, but that just might be from the graphic awards...

Ooh, I didn't know we had a union! I demand fair pay and shorter working hours!....
Right. The best advice I can give is Observe and Experiment. That's what I do a lot, I look at things other people have done, styles that I think are interesting, and then experiment with them. Sometimes it doesn't work, but then I just don't show that to anyone.

Totally joining.
My sage advice: When all else fails, click on things at random. The result is usually ten times better than anything you would have come up with methodically.

I shall join. And since PotR's already pretty much summed up my advice in a nutshell (my best graphics are the result of pressing random buttons) I shall proceed to echo smeag as well. Text can make or break a graphic

Sweet.. thank you so much. I will add that later because I want food now.
But, I am really hoping to be able to continue the graphic awards really soon. So, if you haven't nominated, you know who you are, nominate.
And... I am wondering if you all feel the same way, but since school is starting again and all, there is a whole lot less time for Photoshop.

Whoa, JOINING.
Advice - Uhm. Hold on. *ponders*
Oh, I know.
EXPERIMENT.
It's been said, but it's really what I do. Play around with layer settings, textures, and all that fun stuff.

I do the same thing.
Is any other contest host having trouble getting people to put in entries?

May I join? I'm not the greatest graphic maker but... I enjoy playing with the buttons.
I don't reserve spots----it's first come; first serve for my contests so I don't have problems with that. If a person actually asks me to hold up a few days, I can do that but I won't force someone to turn in an entry.

Don't have great graphics.... ha ha.
I am speaking of the amount of people joining the contests. Is it less just because school and starting again and such?
I know that I have not been able to join as many as I would like because of that.

Well, for me, what with homework and all, I don't really have a whole bunch of time for graphics. Sadly. I can manage to get stuff done on the weekends, but that's about it.

I don't know----the activity on the forum seems to be the same before and after school started. So, maybe people have found the time to still enter contests. Some -may- not be as active, but I haven't really noticed.

I haven't joined any contests since I started school, because I don't want to get so busy that I can't make an entry. There have been some that I'd definitely like to enter, but I don't know if I'd have time to make an entry.
