Darky!
Someone else that appreciates the awesomeness of Ramin Djawadi's work on the Iron Man movie. Driving with the Top Down and Vacation's Over just give me chills.

Joining, joining! I've been a HUGE soundtrack nerd, geek and fan since the mid '90s!
I have to pick a favorite soundtrack? Sorry, I can't. I was in agony even having to pick my top 10.
Hans Zimmer is my favorite composer though, closely followed by Trevor Rabin, Howard Shore, Basil Poledouris, James Horner, James Newton Howard, Jerry Goldsmith, Danny Elfman, Harry Gregson-Williams, Rachel Portman, Björn Isfält and Stefan Nilsson. Ahh I could probably mention 30 more composers here!

*big grin* Oh! I must Join!
I absolutley love soundtracks, especially the LotR ones (of course) and the Narnia and PotC ones are nice too.
But the TOP soundtrack is *drumroll* Pride And Prejudice! I love the piano music in it! So calming...
Also, the Riverdance soundtracks are great- I love "Roots of Riverdance."

@Merides: Yeah, that's a great one. Without a doubt. I think they might've had the... *thinks* third best piano player in the world playing for the soundtrack. I'm not completely sure about that...but it certainly is amazing music.

I actually LOVED the 'The Village' soundtrack. The movie is only scary because of it. Gorgeous haunting violin... ARGH! THATS THE ART OF SOUNDTRACKS! Movies mean almost nothing without them in my opinion... I mean they just add SO much to the emotion and atmosphere. What would we do without them -sniff-

I agree Sair, I always said a movie is nothing without the soundtrack, it gives the movie life.

Eru, what has Trevor Rabin done? o_O I don't believe I can place his name to any movie.
Oh, and just an fyi for all of you guys, sometime you should watch (listen to, really) Gettysburg. It's got amazing music composed by Randy Edelman.

Okay, the soundtrack to The Village is pretty amazing. I love the violin on that. I think that the Violin, Viola, and Cello are (or rather, can be) the most emotionally evocative instruments, and they are applied to great effect in The Village. <_< I think they're applied to greater effect in Gladiator, but hey.
Okay, my single favourite theme from any movie that I've seen or heard is the theme from Schindler's List, because I'm a sucker for sad/bittersweet themes. ^_^ Triumphant themes are pretty cool, and action packed ones, like Indiana Jones, Star Wars, or Superman, but the ones that I love the most are from Schindler's List, Gladiator ("Patricide" and "Am I Not Merciful"), The Last Samurai, etc. Hans Zimmer is responsible for most of those.
Can anyone else (who was actually able to pick a favourite soundtrack) narrow down why exactly it's their favourite? Gladiator is my favourite because you don't even have to have seen the movie to be completely swept away by the raw emotions created by the music. I heard the soundtrack two years before I saw the movie, and I fell in love with it. I can't think of any other soundtrack that has the sheer emotional roller coaster aspect to the same extent that Gladiator does, which is why I love it so much.

Hmm... I like Titanic best just because of the emotion, the melody, the beauty of the music. The score coupled with the vocal aspect of the soundtrack is wonderful.
James Horner in general is great. I've heard he plagiarizes somewhat, even some of his own music, but I don't care. I've got Titanic (including Back to Titanic), Zorro, Braveheart, and Troy, which are all by him, on my iTunes. I love it.
