After I read your post, I immediately went to the USA website. So, I read about his agent finding him.
Quote: He is survived by his brothers Dr. Stephen Kamel and Robert Kamel, 5 nieces and nephews, and 6 grand nieces and nephews.
My heart goes out to them. It seems the great ones are always taken before their time. *sigh*

I know, I read that too. It's just tragic, it really is. Apparently, he had flu or something and recent pictures of him show him looking quite ill, so I don't know if there was something more serious that brought on his heart attack.
Tony has said he's going to miss him terribly, as are we all.
He was much loved at the USA network Monk forum, I've just been there, and he actually used to go and post around the forum when topics interested him, as well as talk on the arranged chats. Not many people would do that.
I really hope, as a fitting tribute, the family allow his abscence to be explained by something other than him just up and leaving. Perhaps Dr. Kroger could actually have been killed, and Monk is investigating his death and that's the sort of "last case" the two are involved in. I don't think that would be unsymphathetic or anything, as it as happened with other TV shows.

I think I'm going to cry! I was watching Monk today, and an add came on that was showing Dr. Koger. I got all excited, because I thought it was promoting him, and I love Dr. Kroger. Well, then at the end, my mood drastically dropped when I found out it was a tribute and he had died! I actually shed a tear!
@JF I hope that's what happens to. I will be very angry if Dr. Kroger just "leaves" The powers-that-be can't just have him leave. It wouldn't feel right.

Unfortunately, he is going to have to just "disappear", even though, since they are good writers, they will provide a story behind it. Although, there isn't much leway for them from being so unexcepted.
I miss Dr. Kroger. =[

Welcome, Karigan! How sad for you to join us at such a depressing time.
Well, as I trust the writers and everyone involved, I'm assuming that they won't leave us without any sort of episode explaining his abscense. Considering he was such an intragal part of Monk's life, they'll do something. And hopefully it'll be something really special.
Man, Monk is gonna have such a sad atmosphere to it now...

Yes, the writers better do somthing for Dr. Kroger. The very nature of the Monk-Kroger relationship makes it nessesary. Monk would not hear about Dr. Kroger moving away and just say "Oh....that's nice. La la da dee dum." He'd freak out and chase after him. The writers will have to make a pretty good story for him.

It would actually be decent for him to be one of the people murdered because that means Monk can't go back and we can see how high of a part he played in Monks life.
The only problem I have with it is people might say the only reason they do that is because he died in real life, so they would have to cover it up somehow.

Well, they do need a cover for Krogers absence. He will never be on the show again. Its not like the actor is just leaving and could return: killing him off then would make a lot of people angry. But Stanley is gone forever. There will have to be a story explaining his absence and hy he will never be on the show again. I hope that when that door is finally closed, its closed in a very memorable way.

I couldn't have put it better myself, Nauriel.
I don't think they're going to try and "cover up" the fact that he will never be returning. But hopefully they'll tastefully and respectfully come up with a way to explain the abscense of Dr. Kroger.

Personally, I would like Dr. Kroger to be killed in the show. I can't think of a better way to end the relationship between him and Monk by having Monk solve his murder. There's simply no other way that we the audience can accept that Dr. Kroger is no longer around, and the same with Monk. He can't bring him back, so the best he can do is help Dr. Kroger's family and try to move on. I'd love a scene with Monk at Dr. Kroger's grave, and he's talking to him about the latest case (Dr. Kroger's). I think that would be a really nice touch.
It's happened quite a few times on TV shows here in the UK, where a long standing character has died or been murdered because the actor died.

JF, I just saw your signature, and...
...how did I not hear about this? No! Dr. Kroger can't be gone...
I really can't think of anything to say...it's just so devastating, and sudden.

I agree with this idea. Mr. Monk solving Dr. Kroger's murder would be a touching ending to their relationship.
 Again...so sad.
