I love John too, but I agree. I was reading this thing saying that him appearing in every episode is extremely unlikely because:
-He's a big name and therefore they have to pay him a lot
-He lives in the U.S and doesn't like to leave for too much time. Something about kids...
Yes! *High-fives* Beckett's death was definitely the worst... and then they brought him back and effectively killed him again.

Again Tim, I agree with you. If Mickey or Martha comes on, I swear I'll punch a screenwriter in the face.
However, I really really REALLY love James Marsters, so if dear John comes on as a regular...I really wouldn't complain. Except for maybe him pining over Jack when he clearly belongs to Ianto. That could potentially be annoying.
And of course, I've mentioned this before, in some other thread, but my favorite character ALWAYS dies. Well, technically, I kept switching between Owen and Ianto because I just couldn't decide (mainly Owen in the first season, almost ALL Ianto in the second). But of course, Torchwood made up for it, by killing Owen not once, but twice. Lovely.

tim, tar-dis - i'm with you. if mickey and martha replace owen and tosh, that'll be the end for me. i found martha considerably less annoying in torchwood than i did in doctor who, but i still don't like her and wouldn't want her there permanently; and mickey's harmless enough, but he's just so dull. i've always liked tosh, and i grew to love owen this series, so replacing them with a character i can't stand and a character i find infuriatingly boring would just be rubbish.
and what is it with series killing off the best actors? in my opinion, burn gorman was by far the best actor in torchwood and now he's gone; and then on monday night they killed chris in skins, and joe dempsie (who played him) was the best actor in that. and of course i still haven't got over the fact that eccleston only did one series. i guess it's because the good ones don't want to get stuck in just one role. i admire them for their artistic integrity, i just wish my favourite programmes didn't suffer as a result.

^ *is lost in the same sea of Martha-hate*
Actually, I think they're planning on putting her on full-time. Sorry, Martha-haters.
Which reminds me. Has anyone else read that awful rumour that they're going to ditch even JB from the show and have Gwen running Torchwood? My heart nearly stopped when I read that. And not from happiness.

-ish relieved I'm not alone in my Martha appreciation-
I don't think John is leaving, the rumour I read was he wasn't going to be in as many episodes.
The main rumour that actually does bother me, is that they're apparently going to tone the show down a lot. Make it more appealing to the younger Doctor Who fans.
Cast changes to a show, never really bother me that much. But when you start messing with the formula of a show, that's just daft.

surely the whole point of torchwood is that it's darker and more adult than doctor who. toning it down would completely defeat the object. although i have to say, series 2 already seemed slightly watered down compared with series 1. anyone else think that?

I said that to Dad at the start of the new series. No more 'Countycide' like episodes it seems
In the UK they actually showed a 'watered down' version at 7pm for the kiddies They hardly cut anything out.

I guess I'll deal if Martha comes on the show. I can handle it, I'm just going to complain about it.
However, I absolutely refuse to watch Torchwood if JB is gone. I will not. Wasn't that the whole point of the show in the first place? Hello? Any writers with a brain out there?

........I don't now how much clearer I can be. Torchwood is not Torchwood if Jack is not present. It would be like trying to drink water without a cup. If John is axed, i will personally cross the ocean so I can picket, even if it means I have to swim.
That rumour has to be false. Seriously, Doctor Who would not be Doctor Who if it didn't have the Doctor. Torchwood would not be Torchwood if Jack left. It just wouldn't.
By the way, I finished Adrift. For some reason I kept crying. It was just so sad. I even cried at the end, when Gwen started crying in front of Rhys and he actually acted somewhat tender and kind. I was like a baby. It was quite pathetic, really.
But jeese! There were so many people I wanted to slap in that episode! Gwen was being a tard, that police guy (Tony?) couldn't make up his flippin mind if he like Gwen or not, Rhys...I just wanted to slap that man upside the head. What a jerk when he yelled at her during thier picnic.
I can't wait for the next episode! It looks so good....

Oh yeah, the next episode is AMAZING. It's probably my favorite 'cept for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. And that was just for the amazing James Marsters.

Yeah no Owen and no Tosh and no Jack makes Caunion very unhappy. What will there be to watch? Ianto? Not unless he steps up and grabs a bigger role, I don't think I'll enjoy Torchwood as much with only Gwen and Ianto to watch.

The thing that worries me about the toning down rumour, was it came from the same source that said about Tosh and Owen leaving and about the John Barrowman thing too.
It would definetly be weird, but I like the show enough to give it a try and see how it is. I'm not willing to judge it before it's even official. Or I've seen it for myself.

I just reread the above posts about Mickey and Martha taking over for Owen and Tosh...When I first read them, I wasn't too conserned. I didn't think that they would fit in, especially Mickey. Well, I just realized. Owen=Doctor=Martha, and Tosh=tech=Mickey. Its a whole lot more plausable then I thought! If that happens, I don't know what I'll do. I don't mind Martha that much, but Mickey...I think the ninth Doctor summed it up when he called Mickey a "bumbling idiot." GRAWR!

Poor Mickey lol
You have to admit after he met his alternate reality self, and watching his sacrifice, he definetly matured and changed for the better.
