That sounds really interesting!

I'm hoping to do an English study as well. I'd have to do most of my education here in Canada, though. They don't recognize foreign education. :disgust: But after I finish that, I'm moving to England with two friends. :)

it is really interesting. english is a wonderful subject, and so wide that there's something to interest practically everyone - it draws on history, geography, sociology, psycology, politics, debates on issues such as feminism and colonialism...everything you could think of. it's basically the study of human communication, so you learn so much about people and the world from it. a good grounding in english is great for studying other subjects, too - being able to understand the subleties of language is really important for analysing historical sources and political speeches etc. i don't want to sound too practical about it though. studying english may be useful, but that's not really why i chose it - i chose it because it excites me. english is an incredibly rich, diverse and beautiful lanugage, and it has produced some truly astonishing literature. there's nothing quite like the thrill i feel when i find an exquisite piece of poetry or prose. sheer magic!

so yeah, as i said before, i really do love studying english, it was just the essays and exams i was sick of.

haha. well, i've actually left uni now (i left half way through the course because my heart wasn't in it any more - i was sick of exams etc), but i did eat far too much chocolate and too many sweets while i was there. there was a small shop on the road between uni and my flat, and several vending machines on campus, and a vending machine in the launderette, all of which got a fair bit of custom from me. i don't know how i managed to keep the weight off!

sweets are still a major comfort food when i'm bored/mardy/melancholy, and no girly night in is complete without a big bowl of pic 'n' mix.

You finished your course *eyebrows rise* I thought you were enjoying it?

As for the girly night in, well, I wouldn't know about that...... :P:P:P:P:P

i really really love my subject, and the content of the course was really interesting, so i was enjoying it in that respect. the problem was that i couldn't stand the essays and the exams and the jumping through hoops. i'd had 13 years of that at school, and i'd finally had enough. now i'm enjoying being able to study my subject in my own time and my own way without the dread of an assessment hanging over me.

Oki doki. I understand, I think, how you feel. Good luck with what you are studying

I hope that's British...

Nope, it's not. :P As the name suggests. But some very nice British person travelled to Istanbul at some point and brought it back for us all. However, Fry's Turkish Delight chocolate bars [the best ones, in my opinion] are made by an American company.

@ ethelfleda: Sorry your course didn't go as well as you liked. I hope it won't be the same with me. :(

^Darn it! LOL. I don't believe I've ever seen one. Perhaps they don't send them up here...

@ethelfleda: Very true! I love English, hate exams. I had two today, one of which I'm fairly sure I failed. *sigh*

Haha. You can tell your friends you're going to New York in search of a chocolate bar. They'll think you're mental.
