We used to have so many active Brits on the forum... where are you now?

Okay, for a discussion topic... don't you agree that there are something British-ish about people from the island? (And not just the Irish and Scottish!) I mean I can usually tell the difference between Norwegian, Swedish and Danish people... Even though we're supposed to look.. well, Scandinavian! Nothing exact or specific I can put my finger on, but something in the way they speak, the way they dress and the looks...
Isn't it the same with the English? I see you guys.. yeah, the guys actually as relatively tall (though not as tall as the Dutch guys) with Hugh Grant-hair style... the girls like small-ish with good manners... ehh.. okay.. difficult to explain....

Hey all!

I don't know if I've asked this yet, but mind if I join. I am from that beautiful garden of England; Kent :P Ahhhh, don't be fooled though, I am not posh. All of my Dad's side of the family come from Dartford. Erith to be precise. So my speech is like something outta Only Fools and Horses.

Ooh, Oh, could my phrase be: "Put the kettle on for a cuppa would ya? Luvly Jubly."

Oh and Ea;

I kinda know what you mean. I can mainly tell us apart from the accents. Sometimes the clothes too. And sometimes you only have to ask what footie club they support lol :-D ( Pssst, Arsenal and Chalton;) )

Welcome Miss Jones... if I may say so on behalf of the founder miss JF and on behalf of the rest of the British members... :-)
Did you have another username before that one?

Well, miss Estë claimed that she didn't know what typical British looks would be.. in which she actually might be right... because that would be straight stereotyping.. However, I'm glad you seem to agree with me so far!

Kent sounds lovely...the Garden of England, you say? :-)

Hmm I'm surprised that not even Ellie revived the club for the ehh.. was it Champions League... the Man U vs. Chelsey match! :P

Its not possible to do typical British, because there is just too much variety IMHO. I mean, stereotypes may be a useful time saver, but still :P :P :P

Well, it is normally pretty easy to tell apart the denizens of the different parts of the British Isles - just listen to them talk. The Irish, Scots and Welsh all have distinct accents, even if they vary from where they come from.

And the English, coming from a larger area, have several distinct 'dialects'. The most simple division of them being; Toff, Geordie, Scouse, Brummy, West Country, London(inc. Cockney), and whatever us folks speak in Middle England/the South East.

Well no, we don't all look the same. :P Neither do we sound the same, since it depends where we come from geographically. You can tell [usually] from how they speak, but not from how they look...

When Britain first, at heaven's command,
Arose from out the azure main,
Arose, arose, arose from out the a-azure main,
This was the charter, the charter of the land,
And guardian angels sang this strain:

Rule Britania!
Britannia rule the waves.
Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.

Rule Britannia!
Britannia rule the waves.
Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.

The nations, not so blest as thee,
Must in their turn, to tyrants fall,
Must in ,must in, must in their turn, to tyrants fall,
While thou shalt flourish, shalt flourish great and free,
The dread and envy of them all.
(Chorus)
Rule Britannia!
Britannia rule the waves.
Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.

Rule Britannia!
Britannia rule the waves.
Brittons never, never, never shall be slaves.

Land of Hope and Glory, Mother of the Free,
How shall we extol thee, who are born of thee?
Wider still, and wider, shall thy bounds be set;
God, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet!

Truth and Right and Freedom, each a holy gem,
Stars of solemn brightness, weave thy diadem.

Tho' thy way be darkened, still in splendour drest,
As the star that trembles o'er the liquid West.

Throned amid the billows, throned inviolate,
Thou hast reigned victorious, thou has smiled at fate.

Land of Hope and Glory, fortress of the Free,
How may we extol thee, praise thee, honour thee?

Hark, a mighty nation maketh glad reply;
Lo, our lips are thankful, lo, our hearts are high!

Hearts in hope uplifted, loyal lips that sing;
Strong in faith and freedom, we have crowned our King!

Yay Britain.

Safe topic of the week: Weather.

What's the weather like in your part of England? It's raining lots here. :rain:
